Chakotay and Seska (Spoilers if you haven't watched S2)

I doubt he would resent it. I think his family values would kick in and he would abandon Voyager if necessary to go and find it.

You know, like how Janeway and Tom did for their triplets.

But they were LIZARDS!

Or salamanders... whatever ...;)

If the baby was Chakotay's the writers would have been in an awkward position. If Cullah leaves the baby behind, now Chakotay has a half Cardassian baby. If Cullah takes him, Chakotay assumes that the baby will be mistreated because he is not Cullah's and has to rescue him. Again, either Chakotay has to find the baby, or the baby has to get killed which makes the audience uncomfortable.

Their only out to avoid doing stories they didn't want to do was to have the baby be Cullah's.

Now, the Borg baby. They took the same out only they hand-waved its existence. Canonically I guess they left it somewhere and forgot about it. Or Janeway had it removed from the records and ordered the Doctor to study it in Cerberusian fashion, after adding a subroutine to his program to ethically ignore what he was doing.

The Borg baby is a mystery. Some say he self-destructed...

If Chak had kept his baby, I guess he would have been raised along with Naomi Wildman, they'd be like brother and sister with Neelix as Godfather... He would talk to him about the guiding tree and all that, "Monsters! Monsters from the ID!!!" er... that's a quote from Forbidden Planet...

How 'bout if Q showed up and took the baby back to Cardassia and gave it to Seska's family. Oh wait, they don't really like half breed Cardassians so better if he went back to earth and gave it to Chak's sister or some relative I vaguely remember reading about in books.

There's those Indians that decided to live in Cardassian territory, TNG, remember? They could take care of the baby and at the same time, it might serve as an intermediary between them and the Cardassian, assuming that those Indians weren't wiped out when the Dominion took over...

The Dominion killed all Maquis, maybe they included those Indians in the process, they are known to be rather wholesale in their bestowing of death...

The actress who played Seska was so good I wish they didn't just go full villain on her. Let her back onto the ship in the brig and use her for some secret missions or something. Or maybe Janeway could just make her first officer out of the blue.

After her brother is discovered to be a terrorist, you would think that she would have been kicked off Earth?

Because of Security issues that you have to be squeaky clean to be privileged to be allowed on the homeworld in any permanence.

Speaking of Naomi, I noticed in ''Deadlock'' she wasn't named and in ''Basics Part 2'' she is only referred to as ''the baby''. When is her name known?

I haven't got to the seasons where she is out and about on the ship but I do know of her.

There's some current of thought that her name is actually Greskrendtregk. That moniker was bandied about, briefly, in Dreadnought.

If she had been born a boy. For her sake, I'm glad she was a girl.

Did Baby Wildman the corpse, have a different name?

Calling them both Naomi is a little sick.

Unless they were both named Naomi before they were born.

But either the baby was named after the corpse which is ghoulish, or the corpse adopted the babies name after the baby was named which is lazy.

This all reminded me of a recurring sketch on The Electric Company, called "Love of Chair".

Announcer: Will the boy stand up again? Will the chair break? Will you break the chair? And...what about Naomi?

I find this path interesting. With a few tweaks, I can envision such dithering readily leading to trauma and crisis owing to an unanticipated adverse development overtaking the hatchling. Then, voila... the Doc has to work his way through existential dread as Latent Image Redux!! unfolds before us. :)

Incubating babies for years would be an ineffective way to make drones so I assume this poor baby was being used for something else. I'm going to guess the super growth rate of babies compared to adults had something to do with it, baby was probably being milked for the benefit of other drones. It's amazing it looked sorta okay in sickbay.

Maturation chamber = Maturing box.

WILDMAN: It seems like every time I turn around I'm recycling her clothes back into the replicator.
SEVEN: Children assimilated by the Borg are placed in maturation chambers for seventeen cycles.
WILDMAN: Interesting. Well, if you'll excuse me, I need to go talk to Neelix.

How long is a cycle? ;)

Meanwhile...

JANEWAY: Hello. I'm Captain Janeway.
YIFAY: Icheb.
LEUCON: You've grown.
SEVEN: He spent several months in a Borg maturation chamber.
JANEWAY: This is Seven of Nine.
YIFAY: That's a Borg designation, isn't it?

17 cycles, regardless of age they are placed in the chamber?

I wonder how old 7 was when she was removed from the chamber, do we know? How long was she an active drone?

ICHEB: What?!
SEVEN: The Doctor suggested I should develop my sense of humor.
