CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Not open for further replies.
I've updated the Terry McIntosh article on AxaMonitor with his resignation, which includes his comments on the future of Ares Digital, being blamed for Kickstarter backers' languishing patches and how he believes he's protected from the threat posed by the CBS/Paramount lawsuit.
Thanks Carlosp. AxaMonitor IMO is a valuable repository. I'm not sure what Terry is referring about wanting to remember only the good times while at Axanar. The way he treated paying donors asking honest questions he didn't want to hear so he hauled out an abusive attitude and bans? Good times, good times.

I don't know about Maurice, but the reason I said it was uncalled for was by comparing her to Eva Braun you invoked Mr. H. and his N. party, which is always the kiss of death to a discussion thread. Do that and we'll never hit one-thousand pages of postings.
Exactly. We know next to nothing about this person, so such comparisons are beyond obscene.

Then I apologise but I found it staggering that this woman was being patronisingly described as "extremely sweet" based on what? Her online persona? Her online image? For all we know this lady is also enjoying benefits derived from the money donated by Star Trek fans. During the short time I've been following this I've noticed a certain level of ire directed at the likes of Peters, Burnett (Meyer Burnett? I'm never sure) et al and yet Miss Kingsbury and now Miss Hubbard often receive a free pass and I find myself wondering if that's down to their gender? The only thing missing is the soft-focus on them just like in TOS

But again, I apologise. I should have gone with Ri Sol-ju ;)

Look, I give people the benefit of the doubt until they give me reason not to. Everything I've read and seen of her gave me the impression she seemed sweet. I might be wrong. She might be a bigger con artist than Alec. But I have no reason to see her that way. And yeah, I am sorry her name is being dragged through the mud because of whom she decides to date. Comparing her to anyone with negative connotation just because of that is a step too far in my opinion. If that makes me naive, so be it.

You're probably right and of course it's often possible to judge people on how they behave online, I don't think you're naive for example. And whilst the joke was in poor taste, which I apologised for, the wider issue that interests me is whether or not being romantically involved with some of the main players in this story somehow negates responsibility. First example, Miss Kingsbury is in charge of perk distribution and that's a role she appears to have failed at on a very large scale. Second example, Miss Hubbard has become involved because of this flyer-thats-not-a-flyer debacle. If both of those people were not who they are but were, say, male buddies of Alec I genuinely believe they'd be getting a much shorter shrift than they've so far enjoyed.

And I'm not saying it's time to turn the phasers on them or anything as, in my opinion, some of the grief directed at those major players has at times been as poorly thought out as my initial joke.

I'm going to repost exactly what I said on Facebook:

"The film is so good, that Paramount and CBS have tried to shut it down because Star Trek fans like it TOO much!"

I think I just vomited in my mouth.
I think they just vomited in the donor's mouths.

You do know that all four ships that bore the name "HMS Ark Royal" were aircraft carriers, right???

Ark Royal (1587) was not - anyway, as a carrier, I have gun turrets anyway

Okay so by 'Main Batteries' he means the Five inch guns.:whistle:;)

Not what he said here
:nyah:

Well clearly I was not meaning myself per say, but using my aircraft as target spotters for the main Battleships and Battlecruisers

Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....

Sooo, today I went on TvTropes for the first time in a while. Somehow, starting off on the 'Just Shoot Me' main page resulted in me winding up here:

And what do I find?

It's just so...lame.

Axanar does have an entry on TVtropes by itself - its fun reading

Regarding the following I found on that link:

Is Paramount being sued over this?...
So, nope. I'm calling bs on that site.

Paramount is definitely not being sued. Whenever I get onto FB today, I will drop the link to PacerMonitor so they can - maybe - read the actual filed papers in the suit.

[...T]he wider issue that interests me is whether or not being romantically involved with some of the main players in this story somehow negates responsibility. First example, Miss Kingsbury is in charge of perk distribution and that's a role she appears to have failed at on a very large scale.

But is that fair to solely put blame on Kingsbury? (She certainly does have some guilt in this whole narrative.) Or is there some blame to be put on Alec, who perhaps had other things he found more important (phone system, carpet, offices, painting, greenscreen, etc.) or Terry, who apparently could not complete Ares Digital? Sure, Diana could have bought some postage, done a mail merge, been done with it all, but she still has to answer to Alec, her boss.

Second example, Miss Hubbard has become involved because of this flyer-thats-not-a-flyer debacle.

True, but should she be? She posted the back of a playbill that had an ad for her significant other's business on it. The focus should be on the ad NOT the person who posted it, especially as she's, at best, peripherally involved.

At the end of the day, both should just get out while they can.

If both of those people were not who they are but were, say, male buddies of Alec I genuinely believe they'd be getting a much shorter shrift than they've so far enjoyed.

Maybe. If there was any connection to the male buddies to the management of the studio, there again, would be some guilt (like with Diana). At least that's my $0.02.

The streaming service thing was funny since many pro axanar articles talked About how horrible the new series being on cbs all access was.

However somehow an area digital streaming service (which wouldn't be free either) was good.

Self-delusion is a powerful thing (so is Lord Alec's kool aid apparently.......)

Hard to take such sexist abusiveness as he shows towards critics as anything but infantilism. Hate to be so direct, but honestly, people who live in *this* era of the planet do not behave that way. I'm sure it impressed idealistic supporters of Trek no end to see such abusiveness being put in charge.

That infantilism was on full display repeatedly last summer when Terry graced us with his general dumbfuckery and assholery here on this very board.

Hopefully this will be the last we ever hear of the jerk.

I tend to agree. But reading strictly about Crysstal Hubbard's professional work, what I found rather fascinating...

...I've noticed a certain level of ire directed at the likes of Peters, Burnett (Meyer Burnett? I'm never sure) et al and yet Miss Kingsbury and now Miss Hubbard often receive a free pass...

Here is how I parse it:

a. No matter what anyone says or does wrt/ Axanar, their personal social lives are not anyone's business. Axanar is not a capitol hill senator's misconduct. It is discussed as a potential scam of donors. Commenting on personal social lives in the context of Axanar is uncivil or worse, and rooting around in it can rapidly turn into stalking.

b. threats or suggestions of direct personal violence have to be totally out of bounds.

Discussions are fluid, and one can observe that the discussion might have a bias, or be missing information. But it seems to me these things, at the least, are appropriate to keeping it healthy.

I personally think it is too much, for example, to be looking at the girlfriend's professional activities and trying to draw inferences about their potential degree of sympathy for Axanar because of 'similarities'. If her relationship to Axanar is social with a staff member, she has the right to be left alone no matter what she does or believes. Not a criticism, please don't take it that way, I just offer my sense of it.

From "dictionary.com":

"A definitive answer is a final one.
A definitive decision by a court of law is one that will not be changed. (Bonus Definition! No extra donation level, even!)
A definitive translation is one that everyone turns to as correct. Definitive means authoritative, conclusive, final."

Okaaaayyyyyy, but...

From "axanarproductions.com":

"Patches...the Definitive Word!"

"Official AXANAR Kickstarter patches will hopefully begin shipping to donors from that campaign very soon."

"Official AXANAR Indiegogo patches have not yet been manufactured, and will thus not be shipping to donors from that campaign for awhile, still."

"And there you go… the definitive word on patches!"
simple-smile.png

Hmmm.

"...for a while, still."???
"...will hopefully (sic) begin shipping...very soon."???

Does not sound "Definitive" to me.

Perhaps one of the problems at Alackanar has to do with language.
It occurs to me that Klingon is not the language they should be worrying about, when it comes to Suits and suits...a brush-up on word usage, and definition might be in order (pun fully intended)!

"Hopefully"
