Carmilla the series

Part of this new season seems to be Laura accepting saving the world isn't a Disney story with 'good' guys and 'bad' guys. I wouldn't be surprised that means darkening her character a bit by staking Danny.

Did you think I was dead?

Perry's expressions before she finally gave in and talked were hilarious!

So the ladies of Silas are synced up with the moon? Interesting.

Hospitalized.

They were already synced to the moon.

Oh.

Whatever the something was that has been using the schools menstrual cycles for the past few centuries, is suddenly being period-blocked, an ancient evil cut off from it's ruby source of powerfulness, by a fresh new evil.

Why am I thinking that it's another pissing match by the board of governors?

Carmilla's burgeoning association with Perry is interesting to follow. After last episode's smackdown, Carmilla softens her approach with WiccaPerry and foreshapowing her relationship with Laura in not finding anyone turning out better than expected. Also, in the scene, while she flinches from Perry's touch at first, she doesn't flinch later when Perry touches her again.

Mel has been fun to watch, she seems more the Perry we know from seasons 1 and 2. Do you think there could be some personality traits that get mixed up through this business?

Carmilla knows that she is being watched, and has to play the part.

She is not herself as long as she remembers the camera is there.

People always forget though.

Speaking of cameras, we keep getting two, the clear cam that Carmilla set up and the Dean is watching from, then a grainier view cam. Is that grainy camera the VHS tapes Laura and Carmilla's show or is it the library watching and recording what's up? Laura and Carmilla are also viewed in grainy fashion so I am thinking it's the library watching them.

Do you suppose the library at Silas is more like one of Marvel Comics Watchers, or The Living Tribunal?

Well, the novella is, essentially, an extended journal by Laura which was published after her death around age 27. Le Fanu's ending is curious. Laura remains mentally haunted by her encounter with Carmilla and even sometimes imagines she can still hear her prowling about. The reader is left to wonder if that is just Laura's imagination or if the sudden illness and death were from a resurrected Carmilla.

It's possible the series will follow suit and we'll find these Vlogs being watched by her dad or other character. The creators seem to want to subvert the standard format of the tale, making Carmilla a protagonist allied with Laura. They could end up with Laura a vampire, or Carmilla turned human. With the vampire ending, these could be a record of her turning, and the human one could be a record for their descendants?

VHS doesn't last that long.

Video can escape media.

These olden day versions, can rip their way out of the magnetic tape and get into season 3.

Laura mentioned it was weird seeing Kirsh as a Zeta. Um, he's been a Zeta this whole time, hasn't he? Where have you been, Hollis?

I guess she means acting so much like one. For instance, the way he assumes his pal following Mel around at the party was OK and her rejecting those advances was a way of flirting was what was meant by that.

That was short. So, Carmilla is locked in, presumably by the Dean who is the likely one watching. Is the lock down because they are on the right track and the Dean wants them to keep puzzling? Or are they locked in so they can't keep up investigating something?

I think it's the latter. The Dean obviously doesn't want them to get close to whatever it is she is hiding.

Not to sound completely stupid but why exactly are Perry, Carmilla, Mel, and Kirsh stuck down there? It was probably mentioned in episode 1 but I'm kind of lost??

I am not sure from a writing perspective they are using these secondary characters. In story, Kirsch was the Zeta in charge of the party, I think, and Mel pulled the chicken-Zeta out of the pool. Perry got caught up in the ensuing chaos that wrecked the party so they've been brought here for Carmilla to question them.

Perry is doing most of the 'Laura' role of piecing things together, but I am not sure how it all does tie together. They keep rehashing what they know and dribble out a hint which is easily lost in the word vomit of re heated exposition. For instance, the Zeta crest has a minotaur which led to wondering if the Zetas were connected. But that is something from last episode where Perry went on about mythology. I have to watch again to see where such stuff first came in.

The light humor is amusing, but the story keeps going in circles that are not very interesting. I hope they have some use for this Perry and Mel stuff going into season three and also for repairing Laura and Carmilla's relationship. Otherwise, this is a story that Carmilla could just relate to Laura and she could do another puppet show. Maybe they could change it up and let Carmilla do the puppets to cheer up Laura?
