I am the same way...I would make a better Cardassian because I too don't like to fight.
Does DS9 focus a lot on the Cardassians? I know that Dukat is on the series and I will admit that I have only seen a few DS9 episode, ( bought the full 7 seasons recently and waiting on their arrival) so my next question will I be able to get to know the Cardassian species better during my time with watching DS9?I like the Cardassians best, for all of the reasons described by other posters... I like the depth of their culture, their "desire" to embrace their dictatorship government, and be loyal to the state, I like the looks and color of their ships, the look of the Cardassians themselves, and their architecture.
Gul Dukat was the best Cardassian ever... the way Marc played that role was simply perfect. I loved the way Dukat spoke.
The same goes for Damar... that character REALLY blossomed as the Dominion War arc came to a close. I don't think there was ever a Cardassian I disliked.
And Cardassian women are hot!
I dislike the two so much I nominated both as "most disappointing species in Trek "

Very much so, DS9 has alot of Cardies. All of the compelling characters that other people have mentioned are in DS9....Dukat, Damar, Garak...
I like Cardies better... they have more facets about them instead of the usual Klingon honor BS.

Yep, there's some good Cardie episodes. Tribunal, Defiant, Civil Defense (Dukat has some great moments in that), Cardassians, and of course the Dominion War eps, are some of them.
Cardassians, hands down. I love them, they're a great species, and so very diverse. The problem with the Klingons is that they're all the same. They're all about honour here honour there blablabla. Cardassians are real people.
And they're hot. Just look at Damar. Mmmmmm....

Tsk tsk. Not ALL Klingons are the same. Look at the Durass family, and Gowron. Gowron preached honor but was really in it for himself. Durass
didn't give a damn about honor either. I know there are more than the two I've given out there I just can't think of them right now.

I second that. There's also Worf, arguably one of the more complicated Klingons owing to being raised by humans and being the first Klingon to serve in Starfleet.
And there's Martok, who exemplifies honor, but has a chip on his shoulder because he's not a Klingon noble. He had to pull himself up by his bootstraps.
Let's not forget the conflicted hybrids K'Ehylar and B'Elanna Torres.

I, on the other hand, am talking about their demeanour, and despite Gowron's true goal, he would always win an argument by saying things like "if you fear a difficult battle you are without honour", or "do you accuse me of being without honour?" and so forth. And everyone falls for that, instead of saying "so what?" (okay, he's the chancellor, but you can always count on a Klingon falling for the same old lines over and over. Try Worf).
Can't just one of these modern Klingons say "I don't think battles are cool", "honour lies in honesty and humility" or "I wear Rexona and like to take long walks in the moonlight" and "I don't care what others think about my bravery"? It's always in the lines of "nawwrrrr, this chicken tastes dishonourable, Ferengi!!!! You have made an enemy out of the House of Whatnot!!!!!!"
That's what I like about the Cardassians. They don't all behave alike, as real people should.
But I guess that's from a subjective point of view. I just don't like Klingons.

Was there a Klingon lawyer in DS9? I know there was one in Enterprise and Star Trek VI, but I don't remember DS9.
I think if you look past their rhetoric, you'll see that Klingons actually differ very significantly in personality and that there is a definite change in how their society changed from Enterprise to the end of DS9.

I want to say Klingons, but I'm thinking Cardassians... The Klingons ended up a bunch of biker idiots by DS9's run. The Cardassians managed to go as far in the show's 7 years as the Klingons had in the franchise's then, what, 30? Though I think they were a rip-off of TNG's Romulans by the end...then again TNG's Klingons were as much the same of TOS' Romulans. Huh...conclusion: I'm going with Romulans.
I tend to agree, they made the Klingons too one dimentional over time. All about honor and being a warior. Plus the Cardassians were more calculating and devious...they were more interesting of the two. I like the Ent episode where the Klingon warrior was talking about how everyone wants to be a warrior. Its kind of why they are disinteresting to me
Though growing up my favorite were the Romulans, but I suppose the Cardassians kind of became the Romulans in a way. I also like the Andorians fwiw.

I recall martok making a somewhat off handed remark while on Cardassia Prime drinking blood wine i the presence of dead Cardassians "Bajorans would call this poetic justice". From that point, I saw that for all the talk of klingon "honor", it simply was non-existent in their culture. When it came time to do the hard work required to win the war with the Dominion, the Cardassians(especially Damar) gave so much and they lost more people in the process.
The Cardassians are also a very interesting race that stretch beyond the boundaries of some primitive "honor" code. As we learned from the very onset of DS9, Cardassia was renown for its artisans, explorers and education system. They also were formidable soldiers as well, but unlike klingons, Cardassians were more than simple soldiers (just ask Garak).
Everyone will have a different view, but I stand firmly behind my assertion that Cardassians rock!!!

Sure he wasn't exactly like Martok or Worf (or even Gowron), but even that one had that harsh, overbearing demeanour "typical" of Klingons. It's not just typical. EVERY (TNG) Klingon behaves like that. A discreet, elegant, perhaps quieter person would be a nice change.
Cardassians are portrayed as real personalities. If you compare Garak, Dukat and Damar, they don't even remotely have the same personality. They are completely unique, fleshed-out personalities that behave differently from each other, react differently and don't even have the same priorities.
That's why I think Klingons are annoying. They're too predictable. Cardassians are not. But that's just my opinion.
I love the Cardassians. They were so well developed. I really liked how much they valued their families. I don't know that I'd want to live on Cardassia, though. It's probably too hot for most Humans.

We could also look at it from a point where we are just really only seeing their military branch. We never really get to see the civilian side of Klingons. Perhaps the warrior class acts the way you see them, but the civilian side could be different.
