Captain .... Series

^ That was one of the biggest disappointments with NEM. They introduce an interesting new Romulan Commander but do next to nothing with her.

Dina Meyer leading a Trek series would be amazing, IMHO.

Captain nobody. Center it on cadets out on their midshipman tours. Only show the captain every once in a while. Then split the cast off into their own ships, with a couple going to the same ship, and have them reminisce over comms.

Better yet, have them hang out in a real-time holodeck MMO social media platform. That way you get all the actors together in one room.

^ I've had the idea of casting children (say ten years) as adults, having the make-up department depict them as adults and they would be a Federation species that are naturally four feet tall when fully grown.

The young actors playing these Starfleet officers wouldn't be able to be on the show for long though, they would grow out of the role.

:)

No fan film will ever be regarded as canon by CBS, no matter how good it looks.

Some people who are backing Axanar have completely turned me off to the project. Which is a shame because I thought it had some nice prospects as a fan film.

But I'm tired of people trying to make these projects out to be more than they are. Just be happy to make a fan film. Just be happy that people are willing to commit some of their resources and time to such a project. That a love exists for Star Trek to make something like it possible.

They wield "CBS" like it's a sledgehammer that makes their project somehow more important than it is. It's tiresome.

BillJ, I'm sure this will come as no surprise to you but I agree, 1000%.

I'm shocked. Shocked--to find 005 is going on about Axanar in here!

Thank you very much.

By "little people" I meant the minions. Not so much children.

Out of the canon characters - Captain Erzi Dax

But would prefer a new show to have new characters set 50 or so years after Voyager returned home.

Well children playing full adults, to depict a Federation species that's smaller than average.

I liked the minions, one of the things I like on a Trek show is where there are a fairly large number of extras moving around the background of a scene, minion-like.

Out of the canon characters - Captain Erzi Dax.
While the actress was quite attractive, I never developed a interest in the character, or her future.

:)

I really don't care about the lower deck people. I want to see the movers and shakers that can make things happen.

The thing is, the lower decks people eventually become the movers and shakers. It might be interesting to see characters rise through the ranks and attain more senior positions as their series progresses.

Well, a Captain Picard series could work, but his captaincy of the Stargazer then.

This.

Give the Stargazer a face lift with a true deep space assignment, put some characters that wouldn't quite be "flagship of the Federation" material aboard and I think you have an interesting premise for a series.

Captain Chekov or Kira or Chakotay or Reed simply don't interest me.

Agreed. While I doubt very much it would ever happen, I would like to see a young Picard series. I think it might be better to see him as a young officer, PRIOR to being captain, actually, but still the focus of the show. That right there would be different, as in every series the CAPTAIN is the focus. How about a junior officer we know is destined for greatness one day (a la Lower Decks), with the series ending (or waiting until late in the series) with Picard as captain.

The captain of that series should be someone Picard respects and looks up to, something like he ends up becoming himself. If he were still alive, I think someone like Don S Davis would be perfect for that. But they could draft Faran Tahir, and cast him as a different captain (Trek has done that before!)...maybe even Robau's son or grandson? (hey, it could work...in the pilot of TNG, PS was in his late 40s, yet Picard was supposedly in his late 50s. Tahir is only 51, but the script could easily put him in his late 60s early 70s...it IS the future, and maybe people age slower 300 years from now!)

It would be better to probably base it in the Abrams timeline, too, so it is not constrained by the previous series. Also, since TNG was originally a recycle of Phase II, I always thought/suspected Picard was very Kirk-like when he was young, so if we saw that side of Picard, it would be fun to watch a young, brash Picard mature into the seasoned, diplomatic and wise officer we know, over the course of the series.

Also, a redesigned Stargazer that looks similar to the Kelvin with more engines would be NEAT!

I'm in agreement. One thing; if set in the Abramsverse, the Captain Robau would have to be his ancestor (although we don't know if he had any kids.) Perhaps a female descendant of Robau?

A John Cho Sulu series could be cool.

George Takei wouldn't think so.
George can play Admiral Walter Sulu, the father of Hikaru.

I'm more partial to Sulu's parents having nothing to do with Starfleet at all (I remember Vonda N. McIntyre's novels having Sulu's dad be a poet.) As for George, didn't he give John Cho his blessing on the set of the first movie?

Captain Neelix, Interstellar Bullshitter, flies his small one-man freighter trading goods and boldly fleeing pursuing vessels.

There would have to be at least one other crewmember aboard, so that he has someone to talk to other than himself.
Make it a snarky, wise-cracking AI and you've got your funding, mister!
