The Scott Pilgrim series. Not a manga, but a Canadian comic done in manga-style. I was recently introduced to this series and it's so much fun. If you have any knowledge of video games, anime, and/or geek culture you should try it out. It's about Scott Pilgrim, a relatively regular 23 year old slacker, who is in a band and gets a mysterious girlfriend, but to keep the girlfriend he has to defeat her evil exes in battle. As ridiculous as it sounds, it's really great. There are 5 volumes out now of a planned 6. I've read up until 4, just recently got 5, and I'm in love with the series.
It also has an anime which is a masterpiece as well. I definitely agree, Monster is freakin' addictive.
Thanks guy's/gal's? I'll look at those! If you're open to action in a historical rather than sci-fi setting then Lone Wolf and Cub is something you should check out. It's one of the great works in the history of manga.

I just finished Vol 5 the other day and... I dunno, it seems to have lost a bit of its energy from before. I'm curious to see how he ends it all though.
Anyone know of a good mecha based Manga? I'm already aware of the Gundam ones.
I collected that one last winter much better than the crappy Voltron version. I hope Media Blasters will survive long enough to release Dairugger XV in its entirety.Gojirob wrote:
Not a manga, but GoLion is finally available here. At times, many times darker and rougher than Voltron, with no 'stun rays', 'evacuated in time', or 'off recovering', including six main characters, and the Earth itself. Also, no edited-in ties to Vehicle/Dairugger. Also, Lotor/Sincline's treatment of the two princesses is out-and-out vile.

I figure it doesn't matter as long as the story has some substance with good plot and characters and even mechanical designs can make up for lack of flair. Gundam Ecole du Ciel was good too bad it looks like it won't get finished.zakkrusz wrote:
I've found mecha translates horribly to manga personally. It just loses something when it's not moving, in color, and accompanied by sound effects. I just can't take it seriously otherwise. Although I generally believe any genre is better in anime form when compared to manga and prefer it, I can generally overlook it, but mecha manga just doesn't work for me. Conversely, I'm a rather large fan of mecha anime.
