can you recommend a ''MANGA'' series?

It also has an anime which is a masterpiece as well. I definitely agree, Monster is freakin' addictive.

If you're open to action in a historical rather than sci-fi setting then Lone Wolf and Cub is something you should check out. It's one of the great works in the history of manga.

The Scott Pilgrim series. Not a manga, but a Canadian comic done in manga-style. I was recently introduced to this series and it's so much fun. If you have any knowledge of video games, anime, and/or geek culture you should try it out. It's about Scott Pilgrim, a relatively regular 23 year old slacker, who is in a band and gets a mysterious girlfriend, but to keep the girlfriend he has to defeat her evil exes in battle. As ridiculous as it sounds, it's really great. There are 5 volumes out now of a planned 6. I've read up until 4, just recently got 5, and I'm in love with the series.

Quoting myself; I just started Volume 5 today. Love it! :guffaw:

I just finished Vol 5 the other day and... I dunno, it seems to have lost a bit of its energy from before. I'm curious to see how he ends it all though.

I finished it earlier today and I would agree that a specific sort of energy has kind of dissipated, that break-neck, wild and crazy sort that started the series off. It has mellowed in general, but I think that's appropriate given the events and the feelings of the characters as the series is coming to a close. I really enjoyed the 5th book, so far I like how the story is finishing up.

I just don't want to wait a year until the next one! I hope we get it sooner.

Given his previous schedule, I'd be glad if it came out in a year.
I think it's sort of weird because it's angling toward the slice of life stuff, which is fine - it's just completely different from the sort of... well, Hayate the Combat Butler-ish tone that the earlier books had.

I have rotten luck with manga. All of the ones I really get into and like the most take f***ing forever, to be released. The only way to try and fill the void created is to...read more manga which may or may not release at a similar glacial pace. It's a vicious cycle. :(

Since onemanga.com was brought up, I HIGHLY recommend the series "Vinland Saga" they have translated there. It's still ongoing, and it's monthly so it takes like half a year for an updated of five or six chapters, but so far it's fantastic. At least if you like Vikings, action, and don't mind some gore. Like me

Anyone know of a good mecha based Manga? I'm already aware of the Gundam ones.

Not a manga, but GoLion is finally available here. At times, many times darker and rougher than Voltron, with no 'stun rays', 'evacuated in time', or 'off recovering', including six main characters, and the Earth itself. Also, no edited-in ties to Vehicle/Dairugger. Also, Lotor/Sincline's treatment of the two princesses is out-and-out vile.

I never know whether to recommend Elfen Lied, also available on the manga site mentioned. In fact, 'recommend' is a bad word. I'd say give it a look, but man, it is rough, tonally darker than even the anime, barring the first seven minutes. Then there's the harem/horror split. One minute you're dealing with Hina-type bath mishaps, red-faced walk-ins and mega-punches, and then one of the mains casually decides that a young girl who's learned her secret--a girl who she's lived and played with (and ecchi-groped)--must die, just to keep her doomed relationship with the male lead going a little while longer. While that is averted, much much MUCH more is not. To paraphrase Pogo Possum, we have met the enemy and he is us, especially the Human researchers. Its kick-ass and has a great if limited payoff, but it is so not for everyone.

NGE Angelic Days is an AU to standard NGE, and answers the question : What if Shinji, Asuka and Rei (and the world they live in) were not huge basket cases on the edge of Armageddon? To wit, our could-give-Joker-and-Harley-the-creeps couple do not declare love with strangulation in this one.

I collected that one last winter much better than the crappy Voltron version. I hope Media Blasters will survive long enough to release Dairugger XV in its entirety.

I've found mecha translates horribly to manga personally. It just loses something when it's not moving, in color, and accompanied by sound effects. I just can't take it seriously otherwise. Although I generally believe any genre is better in anime form when compared to manga and prefer it, I can generally overlook it, but mecha manga just doesn't work for me. Conversely, I'm a rather large fan of mecha anime.

I don't dislike Voltron. Usually the edits are clever, and the DVD sets explain the clunky dialogue. The one and only edit that's unforgivable is the dub-over for the deaths of Coran/Raible's wife and son. Plus, if you watch it through, Sven finally takes Blue Lion for one last ride before the second series finale. But to see it straight is also a pleasure.

These aren't the most mature or anything, but they definitally are my favorites:

"Dragonball" (Also Z if you like)
"One Piece"
"Fullmetal Alchemist"
"Inuyasha"

^Ya I noticed the big! differances between the ''DRAGONBALL'' I saw on cartoon network, and the ''DB'' I saw in manga format. I wish there was a ''smiley face'' option on this board that had it's eyes sticking out and it's jaw droping to the floor. Because that was my reaction to the book!

I figure it doesn't matter as long as the story has some substance with good plot and characters and even mechanical designs can make up for lack of flair. Gundam Ecole du Ciel was good too bad it looks like it won't get finished.:(
