Brian Brophy didn’t return?

He apparently contacted his manager after I asked him about it.

That's probably why he made his big Star Trek musical and reminds people that he was on the show, and is happy about fans approaching him about that role. :p

He seemed disappointed they didn't even ask :(
Ouch, I didn't know he went as far to contact his agent. :(

I think he was missed not because people can't handle recasting but since were talking about someone who was in such a iconic episode you can see why people might want to see the same actor. The new guy did fine but how can someone say it wouldn't have been more special if it had been Brophy? Also don't get hung up on the only one episode angle. We are Trek fans. We have probably seen that one episode a hundred times so it is different when we talk about Trek or if we were talking about a cult hit type of show were even small details bring joy to people.

Frakes didn't act in years, why ask him back to play Riker?

You state that they didn’t approach him and he seemed sad. I hadn’t seen that, and can’t find it anywhere. Can you show me where you found those details? I’m not sure it would change my mind on how important it was to get him, but it would raise questions as to why.

Riker is a little bit different, of course. He played a very important role in one of the most important Trek shows. Brophy played a small part in one episode. I’m not entirely sure it’s a fair comparison, if I’m honest. Though I accept that you were saying it tongue-in-cheek.

Not hiring Brophy to reprise his role is just Kurtzmans latest diabolical plot to destroy star trek

Something occurred to me...if it hasn't already been brought up...but if they can recast the original Enterprise, they can sure as hell recast Bruce Maddox.

I liked Dahj more. I miss her. RIP.
I'm hoping they're not pulling a bait and switch on us that would have Soji being a lot less likable than Dahj.

Serious question, I found Brophy's interpretation in Measure Of a Man just serviceable to bring the plot from point A to point B. Truth to be told, it's not like American 80s tv shows were famous for the emotional range permitted to their actors and acting in the first seasons of TNG was usually particularly subdued because people in the future don't get too much emotional etc. Still, it didn't particularly impressed me.

Did you guy find his interpretation memorable or similar?

no. but then again, I find MoaM extremly overrated and will never understand how this episode is still so popular

I've said upthread, that Brophy's performance as Maddox wasn't that memorable for me. The character is memorable purely because of his relationship to Data. Take that away and you're left with a cipher. I had no idea who played Maddox until people started getting angry about it.

Perhaps not from you, but I have certainly seen comments implying maleficence on the part of the production crew. Which, is always fun to read.
Well, I can only speak for myself. I think they just dropped the ball on a cool opportunity... But for what reason would they be maleficent against him?

That's a lot of characters, including Trek series regulars.
