Brian Brophy didn’t return?

Are you fine with
Icheb
though? :D

That didn't bug me since he was just a teen on the show but from what I understand the actor is not such a nice guy and people might have liked to seen him undergoing that kind of punishment. A real eye for eye type of mindset!

The recasting is not as distracting as the more controversial, murky recastings of the Hulk and War Machine from the MCU films. I mean Brian Brophy and John Ales look broadly similar (much more so than Ed Norton and Mark Ruffalo).

Yeah. I personally see this more as fan service to story service.

I'm not sure if I see Maddox as fan service so much as he fit into the backstory. On TNG Data talks about how he was going to stay in communication with Maddox which is then backed up later in "Data's Day" so the idea that Maddox has been spending years figuring out how to make Androids actually fits perfectly with already established canon. I mean they could have just made up a scientist but Maddox was already established so I think it was pretty inspired actually to use the character. Especially when we first see him he doesn't really respect Data as a person which plays in well with the anti Synch attitude on the show. It's like extra subtext that you can't just make up with a brand new character. I mean casual fans I am sure don't get that subtext but it's not like some big thing that is going to be confusing to people I suspect.

That's fair.

Did anyone start googling Bruce Maddox when this show started? I couldn’t remember who he was even though the name was vaguely familiar.

Honestly maybe they should have just ditched Maddox entirely and have the character be Geordi obsessed with resurrecting Data. Although him dying killed by some new character wouldn't sit well with fans at all...

She is daughter of Wesley Crusher. She had to take out LaForge for him getting angry all those years ago in "Firstborn" when her dad correctly pointed out his engine work was not up to snuff.

I think it'd be more likely that Agnes would be made Leah Brahms' daughter killing Geordi for revenge on hitting on her married mother years ago.

Maybe for added irony she'll mention how many times she practiced killing Geordi on the holodeck, "And I know you know a thing or two about holodeck fantasies don't you Mr. La Forge?"

Consider that both Ryan and Frakes admit that they had trouble reprising their roles and required extra coaching to get through their parts even though they had played those parts for years.
That's taking things a bit out of context. Jeri Ryan had trouble connecting Seven's new personality with the character she was back on Voyager, while Jonathan Frakes had to readjust to acting in general, which he hasn't done in years since the majority of his work these days is behind the camera.
Picard showrunners said they wanted to bring TNG characters who were organic to the storyline. We're 5 episodes in and I can't see why Riker and Troi being in the show make more sense than Geordi.
Because Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis have to be involved with everything related to Star Trek. Voyager's in the Delta Quadrant? Yeah, we can work them into the show. Enterprise is set two hundred years before TNG? Not a problem. The Orville isn't even Star Trek? Oh well, they can still join us. If anything it's a damn miracle Sirtis was never involved with DS9, and hasn't been involved with Disco yet. Or that neither of them were involved with the Kelvin Trek movies.

I disagree. We are discussing why particular actors would and would not be called back to reprise their roles after more than a decade. I think it is worthwhile to point out that the difficulties that actors who have less experienced with their parts would be many times more than those who played those parts rigorously.

I still go with my theory about the gluten allergy that made Brophy unfit to play Maddox during the cookie scene
