News Boba Fett Movie in the Works With James Mangold

And the consensus for "Solo" seems to be so far, "it's a great mindless lightweight action flick but terrible Star Wars" with "good acting, especially by Donald Glover's impression of Billy Dee Williams' Lando and Colt 45 commercials."
Where does this consensus come from? This is literally the first time I've seen someone say that.

They should have made a Solo v. Boba film to kill two birds with one stone and get it over with. It would have bombed just as bad as the Solo standalone, but we'd have two Star Wars Stories we never asked for out of the way instead of just one.

You know, as a child Boba Fett actually did catch my attention and capture my imagination when I first saw Empire. That said, these days, there's not much to the character that demands a movie. We've gotten an origin in AOTC, and Clone Wars explored his background a bit. The next thing about Boba Fett, his Mandalorian armour which is a major contributor to the character's allure, IMO, is also a told story. Clone Wars and Rebels have done plenty of material with Mandalorians, Rebels even gave us a very interesting Mandalorian in the main cast. Seeing Boba Fett really isn't all that cool anymore, he's just that guy who dresses like Mandalorian because his dad did.

I'll give the movie a shot, but I worry it'll be based around the nostalgia of "whoa, that guy they're giving Frozen Han to is so cool looking! I want his action figure!"

I did enjoy my Boba Fett action figure, I won't lie.

I haven't had any Star Wars toys when I was a kid. Just a bunch of Masters of the Universe action figures that I gave away when I stopped playing with toys...

Talk about having regrets. :(

Why is it that when people talk about superhero movies, decades of comics and cartoons are 'source material' to provide all sorts of great story possibilities, but when people talk about Star Wars, if it's been done in a cartoon it's already a 'told story' and there's no point having a movie about it?

Which is not to say that any of that stuff needs to be in the movie. Bounty hunters have obvious, inherent story possibilities. I really don't get this idea that Boba Fett can't make for an interesting story just because the previous movies never bothered to try.

They could do a Obi-Wan movie with Fett as a villain, they are both pretty much on the same planet after all with Fett serving Jabba and Obi-wan out in the dessert. Perhaps Obi-wan is drawn into keeping someone safe that Fett is hunting, once he discovered that the man who fought his father is still alive all hell breaks loose!

Because Star Wars is different because...

Likely, it's due to the fact that comics get rebooted and no one bats an eye. Star Wars is still considered special because it hasn't been rebooted, even though there are plenty of offshoots and what if storylines.

Superhero movies are in a different continuity than their comic book/cartoon sources, while in this case, Clone Wars and Rebels are in the same continuity as the live action movies. If a story has already been done on Clone Wars or Rebels, what is accomplished by making it into a movie?

Making a movie is accomplished. It's literally kind of the reason Lucasfilm exists - to make movies. Not to mention taking popular content and giving it a much broader audience (how many people have seen Clone Wars or Rebels compared to how many watch the movies?)

Look at it this way, which would have been the smarter move for a TNG movie, a new story featuring the Borg, or remaking TBOBW?

Again I have to point to how many people watch the movies vs the show. TNG movies were made almost exclusively for people who already knew the show, because they were directly attached to it. Star Wars movies are a completely different animal from some cartoon shows that are basically unknown to most of the GA.

Lucasfilm also exists to make video games like Xwing and Tiefighter. They are not a one dimensional company

Disney need to cut their losses now by cancelling the Boba Fett movie. Fett is an obscure Star Wars Character to most casual movie goers.
