News Boba Fett Movie in the Works With James Mangold

He's part of hans backstory either way.

Not to any appreciable extent; all we know is that he was contracted by Jabba to capture Han, and then later by Vader for the same purpose. Anything else--much like Boba Fett being "the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy" or whatever--is just theorycrafting.

2019: Episode IX
2020: Boba Fett: A Star Wars Story
2021: Rian Johnson Trilogy 1
2022: Obi-Wan: A Star Wars Story
2023: Rian Johnson 2
2024: Jabba the Hutt: A Star Wars Story
2025: Rian Johnson 3
2026: Jawas: A Star Wars Story
2027: Episode X (because Disney won't be able to resist)
2028: Lobot: A Star Wars Story
2029: Episode XI
2030: Jerjerrod: A Star Wars Story
2031: The Cantina Band: A Star Wars Story
2032: Episode XII
2033: The Goddamn Mouse Droid on the Death Star: A Star Wars Story

No George Lucas biopic?

"I may have gone too far in some places(Episode 1)"

"I sold my franchise to white slave owners"

Plinkett started the ball rolling but your inclusions one-upped his. :techman: :D

^^this

But who wants a 2 hour movie of a bad guy turning people into metallic ice cubes for "a wonderful human being" known as Jabba, originally a human in a scene deleted by his wife doing the unsung hero editing because the scene added nothing... Jabba, of course, gets shoehorned back in over 20 years later and with the hideous CGI that only - everyone guessed it - dragged ANH back down again but made it worse because of the needless, clunky dialogue on top of the needed, clunky CGI.

As with "Rogue One" and "Solo", there's no question needing to be answered for a Boba Fett movie -- and the track record so far is that these spinoff movies are adding nothing of any depth to really dig into. Just expanding on the exposition given behind the death star and Han's introductions and otherwise being hours of pointless filler. Who is the target audience? Let's see:
1. New fans who want a bridge tying together the old with the new. Except "Rogue One" shows really slow lightsaber battles and Vader isn't acting like a crack-addicted squirrel, nor is he making uncharacteristic puns about falling on asspirations?
2. Old fans that will reject anything new just because it's new or not edited properly, while ignoring their own generation's movies that are also chock full of plot holes and other problems?
3. Anyone who would buy anything with the name "Star Wars" on it, including underwear waiting for them to soil it after eating an undercooked hamburger prepared by a fast food cook forgetting to wash her or his hands beforehand?

I suppose #3 comes closest to the most palatable answer...

I really liked Old EU Boba Fett, and have no real connection to the Disney version (although the kid Boba was ok in the Clone Wars cartoon). Still, I'd watch a movie starring him, its certainly a better choice then a Han Solo movie. At least, I would have wanted to see the movie, but its being made by the person who wrote/directed the absolute biggest pile of crap in the FOX X-Men franchise. So, yeah, while I'm sure I'll see it because I watch SW movies in general, this is just about the worst choice they could have made and it will strictly be a library check out because of it.

Wait.. how about a Jango Fett movie set right after TPM and it leads right up to when Dooku recruits him to be a clone template!!! ... Oh wait.. that's my PlayStation 2 game 'Bounty Hunter'. LOL I loved that game when it came out.

Lobot- A Star Wars Story.
They really need to do the Obi-Wan film before a Fett movie. We just got a "seedy underworld" film with Solo. Nothing causes "franchise fatigue" faster than repetition - see Star Trek for this one.

I will not be surprised in the slightest if this film just quietly disappears, given that it wouldn't have been out until 2021 anyway.

The Obi-Wan film is probably safe, since it actually has the original* actor on board.

*You know what I mean.

By the time the movie comes out, he'll also be old enough to fit believably in a story set a few years before ANH.

This could have potential, I like Fett and James Mangold is a good director. I'm shocked at the reaction this is getting, it's been rumored since they first said they were going to be doing the "A Star Wars Story" movies, and given how popular the character is, it really is a no brainer. I would have been a lot more shocked if we went through the entire series and didn't get a Boba Fett movie.

Where does this idea that Boba Fett is a popular character come from? Put him in comics or novels, fine but why on earth would the general audience turn up for a film with him as the lead?

... and given how popular the character is, it really is a no brainer.

I don't think he is popular, outside of hardcore fandom circles. I don't consider myself a SW fan, and there's absolutely nothing more I need/want to know about Fett beyond what's shown in the OT (I found his inclusion in AOTC to be borderline ridiculous). Furthermore, I know nothing about The Clone Wars and Rebels, but I would classify those as appealing only to the hardcore fandom circles mentioned previously.

I get the idea about Han: people know who he is, regardless of the degree of their interest in SW. For people who may have just been introduced to SW through TFA, say, they'll recognize the character. To a lesser extent, an Obi Wan movie could fly, but would have less impact than the former. But I just can't see a Fett movie being remotely close to a box office success.

ETA: minorly ninja'd by a few seconds!

All I know is that I always see references to Boba Fett being popular.
I'm pretty much indifferent to the character, he was OK in the movies, and he had some decent roles in the other parts of the franchise.
I'm not dying for a movies starring the character, but I'd gladly go see it if it looked good. When it comes to the movie we're talking about here, Mangold's name means a lot more to me than Fett's.

That one is actually rumored.
Really? Ugh. That's almost as bad a Boba Fett movie.
I can kind of see the logic of a Jabba movie being considered. Solo does end with Han and Chewie talking about going to Tatooine to work for him, so a Jabba movie could easily be a sort of sequel to Solo. You could even bring Ehrenreich back for it and pick up on the story threads involving Qi'ra and Darth Maul.

Although, given Solo's performance at the box office, such an idea probably isn't as appealing anymore.
