Blackberry or iPhone or wait until Dec. for Windows Phone 7?

Wait for the new iPhone this June.

I'll be getting it. I've had my BB Bold for 2 years now, and it is the best phone I've ever owned, I love it. However, I'm a gadget geek and always looking to upgrade to the next newest thing, and I've never owned an iPhone before, I want to get on the bandwagon and see what its like. The new one lines up perfectly with my upgrade time, so I'll get the full discount.

Windows Phone 7

Windows Phone 7 went on sale yesterday in the USA.

Analysts said they expect WP7 sales to build slowly as the holidays approach, especially with a record $500 million TV advertising campaign for the devices.
Analysts said they don't expect WP7 phone sales to ever have the major buzz that accompanies iPhone first-day sales, where hundreds of buyers line up outside of major Apple stores.
"I haven't seen any crowds lining up outside AT&T and T-Mobile stores, so it clearly is not a cultural event, but that only means that Microsoft has its work cut out for it re-entering an exceptionally competitive market," said Avi Greengart, an analyst at Current Analysis.
But Greengart noted that crowds don't line up for Android phones, either, even thoughAndroid phones are outselling iPhones in the U.S.

Currently I have an HTC phone running Windows Mobile v.6.5 on AT&T with an expired data & phone contract.
I visited a AT&T store yesterday for a hands-on experience and was told limited supply of the 3 models they had until November 17.
I would really like to get one considering it is really similar to what the iPhone did in 2007 with iTunes.
Windows Phone 7 uses the Zune software to sync the phone and also to purchase apps in the Windows Phone apps from within the Zune Marketplace. While I don't need a store with 100,000 or 300,000 apps I'm more interested in the music aspect of this: I currently do not have a digital music library with library software and this could be a whole thing when starting out. While I'm not a gamer I can see if you are a player of XBOX 360 games this would also be a huge plus.

1. Windows 7 OS computer
2. Zune software for digital music library
3. annual Zune Pass $150. = unlimited streaming music & 10 MP3s to keep a month (120 MP3s)
4. Windows Phone 7 with access to streaming Zune music and your Zune music library. ($200. with 2-year AT&T contract).
5. able to purchase a 2nd battery
6. Netflix streaming app

For the love of all that is good and holy, DO NOT get a Blackberry. We`re tied to these pieces of shit for work and they`re good for just about nothing. The browsing experience is terrible, the screen is tiny on most of them and it doesn`t sync with Thunderbird or anything else that isn`t Outlook.

With all the exciting new innovations coming down the pipeline now and over the next few months, choosing Blackberry is like declaring you hate better usability, more features and an enjoyable mobile experience.

The Facebook app on the iPhone enables synchronization with your contact list.

as it does on my Blackberry too

And on my Nexus.

Same on my Droid Incredible. This is probably pretty much standard at this point.

And I'm enjoying the hell out of the Incredible, though I bought the limited data plan - I know I'll be upgrading to unlimited within a month. Just thought I'd start slow and see what I was actually using.

A relative of mine who lives in England has been talking up the HTC Desire HD. The Desire is, I understand, essentially the Incredible, and lo and behold HTC is going to launch the Incredible HD here within two weeks.

I really hate all these analysts who compare one company that makes a phone that introduces a new model once per year like clockwork. Versus an operating system that is available on dozens of different phones, multiple carriers, with new models coming out seemingly every week. it's poor reporting at it's finest.

You gotta love that kind of nonsense.

People in the U.S. don't generally line up in bread lines, either. Why? Because it's not necessary...at least not yet.

Just on the basis of simple logic - if one item far outsells another yet people are lining up for the less popular item there are issues with the delivery system.

Thanks. Is the iPhone not more limited in ability to quickly open and compose emails? Is it not more difficult to type on a buttonless screen?

Also, can the iPhone easily sync up with a PC's MS Outlook? Or do you need to convert it to another format first?

The physical keyboard is really the only reason to recommend a BB at this stage in the game.

The Desire, Incredible and to a large degree the Nexus One are all basically the same thing. The EVO is also almost the same, just with a larger screen and the 4G radio.

The Desire HD, on the other hand, has an upgraded CPU, the same one that's in the Desire Z and the T-Mobile G2. Unfortunately... the HD has a larger screen then the rest and a smaller battery. Apparently the batteries in the Nexus/Desire/Incredible are higher capacity. I don't know why HTC did that and a lot of the reviews of the HD have complained about battery life as a result.

I really like HTC phones in general... but they make some strange missteps sometimes.

As to Windows Phone 7... the more I've read/seen about it, the more interesting it seems. I don't know if I'd jump the fence over from Android any time soon, but it does look like a solid platform once they polish it up a bit over the next few months.

You know, I looked at an HTC with a physical keyboard and...I dunno, I just liked the virtual better.

I don't have any problems with the virtual keyboard in my HTC Desire. Very easy to use. I mostly make small annoying typos when I'm not 100% sober, but even then it's a real blast.

Yeah, I continue to be surprised at how accurately I can type on that little keyboard - and I'm getting faster, too. The technology is impressive.

All you have to do is replace the browser with Bold or Opera Mini and the Bberries work just fine. I have no probs synching with e-mail whatsoever. I came off a flip phone so the screen to me still is bigger and is more than enough for what I need. I understand the Bberry Torch addresses some of the inbuilt issues with the Bold/Tour, so that is an improvement. Only major issue with my Tour is the battery life...and from what I understand, most of the equivalent Droid phones are much worse with this problem. Despite this, i am going to upgrade in January to the EVO or Epic...most likely the Epic because the Bberry has spoiled me with a great physical keyboard, and I will always be faster with a real keyboard than the touchscreen. The only reason I'm doing it is the higher resolution screen, and extra RAM and more powerful CPU over the current generation of Bberry phones.

RAMA

My iPhone has seen a lot less use since the iPad came out. For the past since month or so it's been email and some light web browsing, that's it.

I think, I might be ready to but a phone, that is just a phone.

So, did we ever find out what the OP got? This thread was revived from May.

Sad to see webOS wasn't given more consideration, but if app availability was a priority I can see why not.

I'm debating between an iPhone and Android right now...any suggestions? I'm looking mostly for something that will let me browse the web and do a little Twitter stuff...nothing too intense. I'm not planning to listen to music on it, though streaming Netflix might be good.

I get a discount through my employer for Sprint so I'm leaning that way...any compelling reason why I should pay a lot more in monthly data bills for ATT to get an iPhone?

You should go iPhone if you value a wider selection of games and tight iTunes integration. Since those don't seem to be important to you, I'd say it makes more sense to go with an Android phone on Sprint and save some money (and get more for it - unlimited data compared to AT&T's 2GB).

The Evo and Epic both get very good reviews, but are for power users. For the kind of usage you're talking about, the LG Optimus S or HTC Hero sounds like a good fit.

Are iPhones still AT&T only, or have they finally gotten out of that deal? If they're not exclusive to AT&T anymore, I might look into an iPhone when it's time for me to upgrade.
