Best Star Trek Ever

I’m loving Discovery for multiple reasons. I need to see another season (soon!) before I could accurately rank it against the other Star Trek series. However, in the previous series, I never started out hating every character, then coming to love every character, and now to being on edge that they are going to kill another one that I now love. I’ve got a level of engagement with this show I don’t think I’ve ever had in the past.

PS every ep gets better after multiple viewings...

Struggling? Hardly it would seem:

So, it's fully compliant with all recent post 1987 and classic Star Trek then. ;) Got it.
Agreed.
My take: If we're going to compare to DISCO to the previous shows, we should compare it to the shows as they actually were, not to some idealized, rose-tinted memory of them.
"Nostalgic" or "comfortable" would also be terms I would use in terms of idealization. DISCO is uncomfortable, unfamiliar, and difficult to put in to a category.

Did you actually read the story behind the headline? 'Unstoppable Monster' :wtf: Fair enough people need to pay for it (and other shows) in their subscription. I do, that is one of the reasons I have watched because I'm bloody well paying for it. Next season - probably not. At the end of this month cycle it (Netflix) goes. However back to the article. Credibility for the hyperbolic unstoppable monster shout is all talk, literally. People talking about it - wahoo. Further in the piece we have this uncomfortable fact "All of this should be good news for CBS All Access, but the company isn’t releasing numbers of subscribers for its streaming service."

It will always come down to the bottom line - money. As long as Discovery translates to money it will be worth trotting out in any form. It has its first two seasons (really, barely one of other Trek).

It was question, not a comment. However, the context seemed to imply negativity, CBS not releasing numbers, cancelling subscription, etc.
No, the context is just the mechanics of the business of paid entertainment (TV). The article alluded to a flimsy premise of talk. 'Show me the money' ;)

Although DIS is only a season in, I consider it the worst Star Trek series, even worse than ENT. At least season 4 Of ENT was good which is one more season than DIS. I personally believe there has been no good Star Trek made since VOY ended....

I’m enjoying Discovery, but it really needs to find its feet and rethink its colour palette. It’s not as crisp or vibrant other series on right now. It’s most recent direction has taken a turn for the worse IMO.

TNG was my Trek and I’d happily pay to watch a new series set on a different galaxy class starship that overlapped with Picards mission. Just send them in the other direction and don’t do epic galactic wars. It’s been done, better, else where.

Wow, this thread is a blast from the past that was brought back from the dead.

My opinion hasn't changed. I'd love to call DSC my favorite Trek series, but I'm not going to do that yet. I need to see Season 2. And maybe even a little of Season 3, once Pike is gone, and we have a better overall sense of how the series is going to be on a Series Level instead of just a Season Level.

S2 seems like a different animal and I'm of the mindset of if Burnham is a constant, then the Captain makes the season because it looks like it'll always be a different one.

Nothing could ever dethrone TOS for me. That series is practically written into my DNA. So the race now is for second place. That's a tough one. TNG has more nostalgia, and for some reason more rewatchability for me, but DS9 is a better, more engaging series. DSC is still young, but it's hit some great notes with me and I find it more "Star Trekish" than most of what we got post 1987. I think S2 is going to tell me a lot!

Thus far, events support your assertion.

Definitely best Star Trek ever. Production values, filmed in HD, full use of cgi models. Uniforms most high quality of any series. Set design and construction look like kelvin sets that we’re built for a movie. Budget largest of any Trek show ever made iirc. It looks amazing. The marketing has been good and it’s situated within the most modern form of televised entertainment vis. streaming and Netflix.

TNG is easily the best Star Trek show (or any show really) closely followed by TOS; others are far (faaar!) behind. Whilst I really haven't liked Disco thus far, I am engaged, it doesn't bore me like Voyager (I probably still haven't seen all of it, probably, can't remember, don't care) so in that sense it is more like DS9.

If I had to rank it right now...

TOS

DS9
DSC

TNG

ENT

VOY

(and to be clear...I LIKE all of them...this just illustrates the "relative" position of each)

If one must compare (as seems inevitable) then I would agree with this position, though I would tie VOY and ENT. It just depends on the episode for me if I'm going to watch it.
