People are definitely free to like different things. Smiley faces are awesome.Right, I mean, it's downright INSANE that people would like different stuff. It's like....INCOMPREHENSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!1!!!
This whole trope that it's a bad show that is just distracting people with its flashy effects is kinda insulting, TBH. I think the viewers who enjoy it aren't mindless fidget-spinner bearing hordes. It's a criticism that was tired decades ago.
Wow - why to people always like to talk about Star Trek: Voyager in Star Trek: Discovery forums?I'm a fanboy but not enough to love this show. Its terrible. The casting was not great with a lot of the actors. The Klingon redesign is horrible (people and ships) This show is more low rate Battlestar Galactica than Star Trek. And it is NOT in the prime universe.

Because they think if they bitch about Voyager or any other Trek it will miraculously make Discovery look better than it is.Wow - why to people always like to talk about Star Trek: Voyager in Star Trek: Discovery forums?![]()
It doesn't? I mean, I look at VOY and then at DISCO and I'm like, "Thank you for DISCO."Because they think if they bitch about Voyager or any other Trek it will miraculously make Discovery look better than it is.
Shut up and take my money!![]()
Reed: Hello Frank
Maj Burns, MACO: I've heard that one before!
That's what dual screens and streaming services are forYou look at them at the same time? Strange![]()

Seriously though, do you feel you need to filter Discovery through a dislike of previous Trek to give it credibility? I wonder if that is a natural defence mechanism. Like if Discovery is all that, then surely there would be no need to piss on any other show because Discovery would be stand alone good, right? That's what dual screens and streaming services are for![]()
Not at all. I did not enjoy VOY even from before DISCO, mostly because I watched it when it first broadcasted. My only frustration is that DISCO gets panned for doing things other shows did. To me, it's just bizarre, but that's my thing.Seriously though, do you feel you need to filter Discovery through a dislike of previous Trek to give it credibility? The set up with Discovery requires its placement in a timeline so I'm afraid some aspects of gauging how Starfleet was and how it fits, is what we have been asked to consider. Least with relevance to TOS. I rather think that is unavoidable made more so by TOS being the origin series in the franchise Discovery referenced in its marketing. What was Starfleet like in Discovery days? Was its values tainted by a war? Were its Officers good, heroic or not? Did it give birth to a better set of values? In that regard and admittedly we are in a blessed 'best star trek ever' thread, I sort get why some comparisons are made. I just wondered if there has been a disillusionment of past favourites. Not at all. I did not enjoy VOY even from before DISCO, mostly because I watched it when it first broadcasted. So, the reverse is true. If a person likes DISCO, just don't like. Don't say that this isn't how Starfleet officers "Should" act because of Janeway, Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Garret, Riker, Spock, etc.
I prefer not to have the comparisons made. That's my personal desire in order to approach things as they are in reality, not just my personal expectations. I'm not perfect at it, but that's a goal. The set up with Discovery requires its placement in a timeline so I'm afraid some aspects of gauging how Starfleet was and how it fits, is what we have been asked to consider. If they want to keep bringing up crap shows to take a dump on DISCO then I have no problem calling their shows crap.I prefer not to have the comparisons made. If the comparisons are made, I feel the need to defend DISCO, largely because I do admit my bias in that I think there is a bunch of unloving critics who use things like VOY, Orville, or whatnot to beat DISCO with.
