Axanar dropped a plot spoiler about a month ago

You ask if creators are getting paid, all of a sudden they're a fan film again!

I'm in this for a on camera take on the Four Years War, which has been something I've been interested in since I was a teenager or maybe just a little before that.

Mention the budget it's a pro film... Talk about them running almost two years behind schedule... They are a fan film....

I did finish the the podcast... And listening to their surprise at needing tools to build a set.... Nothing nefarious at all... Just amateur hour at the ares.....

Quick questions - are we allowed to bring up specific posts from closed threads? I may be thinking if TNZ or direct quotes, but I thought there was some sort of rule against that.

I know that if you want to whine about unfair modding or closed threads, then you don't do it here. That really is a good way to get it closed.

If derailment is becoming a problem, can we just create another Axanar thread? Or request the old one be reopened if we pinky promise to be good?

Quite agree.

Perhaps we need two: an Axanar Thread for the actual production and an Axanar Complaints Department Thread for those who are obsessively invested in being Tremendously Suspicious About Things. That way everyone's happy. :techman:

^ Oh, I missed that.

True dat. Not a sausage. Bugger all. Apart from a slight bullshit allergy I'm as casual as casual fans get. (Although I do donate my services as AxaNinja at the bargain price of a dollar per shuriken. So I guess you could say I'm an "in-kind" donor. ;))

*EDIT* Oh, and just keep reading down the thread from the post I'm quoting here...looks like the bashing hits high gear.

So then really, comparing Hannibal to Prelude in regards to viewership is like apples and oranges. A better (but not perfect) comparison would be a movie in the theater. In that regard, 1.5 million views is really not that impressive at all when you take into consideration that STID sold an estimated 27.3 million tickets.

WAY more apples/oranges comparing a YouTube fan released fan project to a major studio motion picture...

So posting statistical data is bashing?

Thanks, Bill. Yeah, I'm not certain how that is bashing at all. Care to explain, Phantom? I admitted the comparison was not perfect but it's better. Harvey does a good job of filling in the blanks I glossed over. My point was: the Axanar producers compared an initial US airing of a television episode which doesn't include repeats, streaming, Live +7, international airings, etc to a YouTube video's entire viewership both foreign and domestic. The numbers for STID are more apt because they show the entire domestic theatrical run. Granted, my STID numbers don't pull from the international audience which would be a much, MUCH larger number of tickets sold. Double, in fact, more or less. In other words, I gave more statistical weight to Axanar by leaving out the entirety of STID's tickets sold. I'm saying because it's a fan film, it can't compete in the numbers game with the big budget Hollywood films and that's okay. It should try to be its own thing and that's okay.

I'm on record as saying that I would like to see Axanar to do what it has set out to do. I'd like to see it be the best damned independent Trek film of all time. Do I have my reservations regarding it particularly regarding the intentions of the producers and their general attitude? Sure. Do I think that some Axanar fans need to take it a little less seriously? You're damned right I do. Do I think I and others in this thread should take it less seriously? Um, absolutely yes. Will I donate more money? Hell no. Do I want it to be successful? You're damned right I do.

How this is bashing? Well, that just beats the f*ck out of me.

Incidentally:

According to Blue Cross Blue Shield, a bleeding liver from an accident severe enough that they were taking medical classes to see my problem since doctors who had been in the emergency room for over 15 years never seen bleeding that bad in somebody who is not on blood thinners. BCBS says this is not a medical problem that requires a doctor's care. With a potential $25,000 bill staring me in the face, I didn't give more.

Sorry to hear about your medical troubles and I hope things improve for you. :(

The only way to make it an even test would be:
a) if there was an official episode of Hannibal on YouTube
b) if it was put up at the same time as Prelude, and was in no danger of being yanked or moved.
c) it's presence was advertised to the same extent Preludes was.

None of which is ever going to happen. Even something like Netflix views aren't really a fair comparison, since people have to pay to access it there and it's not available in most countries.

^ Clearly this can only be settled by Team Axanar and Team Hannibal having a good old-fashioned track meet. Or facing off in the Octagon. ;)

I'll reply more substantially tomorrow, BigJake but suffice to say this argument isn't personal for me either. Mad Respect, Yo, mad respect.

Not gonna be necessary, Hannibal finished it's final episode about a week ago.

So from now on, Prelude is definitely going to have more views in its YouTube than Hannibal does week-week.:mallory:

Absolutely. I want Axanar to be Axanar, not attempting to demonstrate its superiority to JJ-Trek or other productions. Please note, I'm not saying that this is stated intent of Axanar, Ares Studios or any of their affiliates. I'm saying it makes me raise an eyebrow (like so :vulcan:) when it is held up as a standard of some kind for fan productions.

In sum:

-I'm not bashing anyone-I'm asking questions.
-I have no targ in this fight, as I have not donatd.
-I want all fan productions to succeed and accomplish their goals of making a completed film.
-I am not bashing anyone. I heard a great quote on the radio tonight and I felt it appropriate: "Burning down your neighbor's house does not increase the value of your house."

If there is an issue with my questions, I would kindly like that pointed out. It helps me grow as a person :techman:

Don't selectively quote my post, Bill. You asked here:

http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?p=11262809#post11262809

who was bashing, and said you were "simply having a conversation".

It was subsequent to THAT post that the bashing kicked into high gear within just a couple of posts, including especially Jedi Master's posts.

It's bashing to express one's point of view?

I took it Jedi Master (among others) expressing their frustration at how the production team has presented themselves, and their conclusions on the matter. Then Big Jake expressed a counter position to point how potential errors in others conclusions.

To me, that is having a conversation, with the free exchange of ideas and opinions that have not devolved in to name calling or personal insults (eh, for the most part).

So, I'm curious as to why having questions about Axanar's production and having concerns about how the production is run is "bashing"

I personally have enjoyed the back and forth and read up on more about Axanar in the past week than in a while.

tl:dr

Everyone please be super-polite and super-solicitous. Going overboard on the politeness never hurt anyone-and accidentally undershooting the politeness gets an infraction--or gets the thread closed if it devolves into a discussion about the discussion. Discuss Axanar--not the quality of others' posts about Axanar, or this thread gets closed, too.

Contrary to what Alec Peters, Robert Meyer Burnett, and several (not all, but several) Axanar fans might want you to believe, no, it is not bashing to express one's point of view.

Agreed.

They aren't.

As have I, even on the remote occasion that I have been bested by my intellectual equals in this thread.

EDIT: Just saw your post, GSchnitzer. Message received. Welcome back! :).
