You ask if creators are getting paid, all of a sudden they're a fan film again!![]()
I know that if you want to whine about unfair modding or closed threads, then you don't do it here. That really is a good way to get it closed.
If derailment is becoming a problem, can we just create another Axanar thread?
*EDIT* Oh, and just keep reading down the thread from the post I'm quoting here...looks like the bashing hits high gear.
So then really, comparing Hannibal to Prelude in regards to viewership is like apples and oranges. A better (but not perfect) comparison would be a movie in the theater. In that regard, 1.5 million views is really not that impressive at all when you take into consideration that STID sold an estimated 27.3 million tickets.
WAY more apples/oranges comparing a YouTube fan released fan project to a major studio motion picture...
So posting statistical data is bashing?
According to Blue Cross Blue Shield, a bleeding liver from an accident severe enough that they were taking medical classes to see my problem since doctors who had been in the emergency room for over 15 years never seen bleeding that bad in somebody who is not on blood thinners. BCBS says this is not a medical problem that requires a doctor's care. With a potential $25,000 bill staring me in the face, I didn't give more.
^ Clearly this can only be settled by Team Axanar and Team Hannibal having a good old-fashioned track meet. Or facing off in the Octagon.![]()

Thanks, Bill. Yeah, I'm not certain how that is bashing at all. Care to explain, Phantom? I admitted the comparison was not perfect but it's better. Harvey does a good job of filling in the blanks I glossed over. My point was: the Axanar producers compared an initial US airing of a television episode which doesn't include repeats, streaming, Live +7, international airings, etc to a YouTube video's entire viewership both foreign and domestic. The numbers for STID are more apt because they show the entire domestic theatrical run. Granted, my STID numbers don't pull from the international audience which would be a much, MUCH larger number of tickets sold. Double, in fact, more or less. In other words, I gave more statistical weight to Axanar by leaving out the entirety of STID's tickets sold. I'm saying because it's a fan film, it can't compete in the numbers game with the big budget Hollywood films and that's okay. It should try to be its own thing and that's okay.
I'm on record as saying that I would like to see Axanar to do what it has set out to do. I'd like to see it be the best damned independent Trek film of all time. Do I have my reservations regarding it particularly regarding the intentions of the producers and their general attitude? Sure. Do I think that some Axanar fans need to take it a little less seriously? You're damned right I do. Do I think I and others in this thread should take it less seriously? Um, absolutely yes. Will I donate more money? Hell no. Do I want it to be successful? You're damned right I do.
How this is bashing? Well, that just beats the f*ck out of me.

Don't selectively quote my post, Bill. You asked here:
http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?p=11262809#post11262809
who was bashing, and said you were "simply having a conversation".
It was subsequent to THAT post that the bashing kicked into high gear within just a couple of posts, including especially Jedi Master's posts.

It's bashing to express one's point of view?![]()
I took it Jedi Master (among others) expressing their frustration at how the production team has presented themselves, and their conclusions on the matter. Then Big Jake expressed a counter position to point how potential errors in others conclusions.
To me, that is having a conversation, with the free exchange of ideas and opinions that have not devolved in to name calling or personal insults (eh, for the most part).
So, I'm curious as to why having questions about Axanar's production and having concerns about how the production is run is "bashing"![]()
I personally have enjoyed the back and forth and read up on more about Axanar in the past week than in a while.
