You ask if creators are getting paid, all of a sudden they're a fan film again!
Mention the budget it's a pro film... Talk about them running almost two years behind schedule... They are a fan film....
I did finish the the podcast... And listening to their surprise at needing tools to build a set.... Nothing nefarious at all... Just amateur hour at the ares.....
Quick questions - are we allowed to bring up specific posts from closed threads? I may be thinking if TNZ or direct quotes, but I thought there was some sort of rule against that.
I know that if you want to whine about unfair modding or closed threads, then you don't do it here. That really is a good way to get it closed.
If derailment is becoming a problem, can we just create another Axanar thread? Or request the old one be reopened if we pinky promise to be good?

Perhaps we need two: an Axanar Thread for the actual production and an Axanar Complaints Department Thread for those who are obsessively invested in being Tremendously Suspicious About Things. That way everyone's happy.

Thanks, Bill. Yeah, I'm not certain how that is bashing at all. Care to explain, Phantom? I admitted the comparison was not perfect but it's better. Harvey does a good job of filling in the blanks I glossed over. My point was: the Axanar producers compared an initial US airing of a television episode which doesn't include repeats, streaming, Live +7, international airings, etc to a YouTube video's entire viewership both foreign and domestic. The numbers for STID are more apt because they show the entire domestic theatrical run. Granted, my STID numbers don't pull from the international audience which would be a much, MUCH larger number of tickets sold. Double, in fact, more or less. In other words, I gave more statistical weight to Axanar by leaving out the entirety of STID's tickets sold. I'm saying because it's a fan film, it can't compete in the numbers game with the big budget Hollywood films and that's okay. It should try to be its own thing and that's okay.
I'm on record as saying that I would like to see Axanar to do what it has set out to do. I'd like to see it be the best damned independent Trek film of all time. Do I have my reservations regarding it particularly regarding the intentions of the producers and their general attitude? Sure. Do I think that some Axanar fans need to take it a little less seriously? You're damned right I do. Do I think I and others in this thread should take it less seriously? Um, absolutely yes. Will I donate more money? Hell no. Do I want it to be successful? You're damned right I do.
How this is bashing? Well, that just beats the f*ck out of me.

The only way to make it an even test would be:
a) if there was an official episode of Hannibal on YouTube
b) if it was put up at the same time as Prelude, and was in no danger of being yanked or moved.
c) it's presence was advertised to the same extent Preludes was.
None of which is ever going to happen. Even something like Netflix views aren't really a fair comparison, since people have to pay to access it there and it's not available in most countries.

Not gonna be necessary, Hannibal finished it's final episode about a week ago.
So from now on, Prelude is definitely going to have more views in its YouTube than Hannibal does week-week.

Absolutely. I want Axanar to be Axanar, not attempting to demonstrate its superiority to JJ-Trek or other productions. Please note, I'm not saying that this is stated intent of Axanar, Ares Studios or any of their affiliates. I'm saying it makes me raise an eyebrow (like so
) when it is held up as a standard of some kind for fan productions.In sum:

It was subsequent to THAT post that the bashing kicked into high gear within just a couple of posts, including especially Jedi Master's posts.

I took it Jedi Master (among others) expressing their frustration at how the production team has presented themselves, and their conclusions on the matter. Then Big Jake expressed a counter position to point how potential errors in others conclusions.
To me, that is having a conversation, with the free exchange of ideas and opinions that have not devolved in to name calling or personal insults (eh, for the most part).
So, I'm curious as to why having questions about Axanar's production and having concerns about how the production is run is "bashing"
I personally have enjoyed the back and forth and read up on more about Axanar in the past week than in a while.
