Ash vs Evil Dead (new tv series)

I never saw Army of Darkness, but I assumed that was a clip from the movie when Ash said something like, "I've had experience with rifts before."
The rift is however introduced at the end of Evil Dead 2.

That really, really sucks. Well, at least we got thirty episodes and (according to Bruce in recent interviews) narrative closure. All we wanted was Evil Dead 4 and they ended up giving us the equivalent of Evil Deads 4 through 11. I want more, but a TV series sequel to a long dormant niche horror franchise (it was never as big of a hit as the Halloweens, Nightmares and Fridays) lasting for three seasons is a success story in my opinion.

If you had told me a few years ago that an Evil Dead TV series was a) a good idea and b) would be one of the strongest, most consistent revivals of the late 2000s to 2010s revival boom I would have laughed in your face. My hat's off to Craig DiGregorio, Mark Verheiden and Rob Tapert for pulling off the impossible.

*pours one out for Ash, Kelly and Pablo*

Aw, man, I want more, too. I've been worried about several shows getting cancelled, but it never occurred to me that this show was in danger. I don't suppose they'll shop it around or try a Kickstarter or something....

Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I couldn’t stop laughing at Ash’s reaction to Ruby destroying his chainsaw.
Nice to see the Dark Ones after nearly 40 years. They certainly didn’t take long punishing Ruby.

So I'm curious, what clips from AoD were in Ash vs Evil Dead? Were they definitely not from the ending to Evil Dead 2? Because from what I understand while the rights have been cleared up I think they have not wanted to have to deal with the rightsholders (presumably DeLaurentis for AoD).
I'm not really sure. It was about one second long, and who knows-- it may not have been an actual clip, but something made for the show. I assumed it was a clip, but I've never seen the movie.

They really saved up for the end it seems. If the series is cancelled, it looks likes it's going out on a bang. I suspect everyone involved probably saw this coming. Next week looks insane.

We'll have to add Brandy's bloody prom dress and jacket to Ash's blue shirt for iconic Evil Dead looks. And she got a shed/power tool moment with a possessed hand to seal the deal that she's really Ash's legacy and progeny.

The horror elements were really played up here and definitely not for laughs. Poor Zoe really got a number done on her.

Another oblique AoD reference: Ash calling his shotgun the boomstick along with its hair trigger. I can't remember if that's been mentioned elsewhere in the series or not.

Wow, that was quite a freaky episode. The scene in the tool shed with the possessed cell phone was great (except for Brandy's poor thumb-- too bad that wasn't part of the hallucination) and you could really see that the nut doesn't fall far from the tree.

I was a bit disappointed that the final Knight of Sumeria didn't escape and join in the fight, but I should know by now. The whole episode did have a feeling of dread and finality as soon as the Dark Ones emerged from the rift. Ash's chainsaw getting crushed was painful and ominous, and the unnatural weather and chaos in town felt Apocalyptic. When Ruby and her friend were destroyed, it really underscored that the end is nigh. The giant hand rising from the ground reminded me of a similar scene from Alan Moore's Swamp Thing back in the 80s.

At least now there's nothing stopping Kelly from getting out of the rift. I hope all four of our team survive the final episode. Assuming the world does.

Yeah, she definitely channeled her "inner Ash Williams" when she fired up that tiller/chipper and got that crazed look in her eyes. The hallucination seemed to be a nod to the much darker and more grisly remake from a few years ago, when the girl used the electric knife to sever her possessed arm.

Starz has released a couple clips of the series finale. I'm not sure if they will work outside the US, unfortunately. God forbid they upload them to YouTube.

And here's the promo for the series finale if anyone missed it. Someone uploaded it to YouTube, so catch it before Starz makes them take it down.

I was actually really worried that Ash was going to die.

I wish there had been some closure with Pablo, Kelly, and Brandy. A letter to Ash explaining what happened to them and how much he meant to them.
