Admiral Janeway was the least of my issues, more that it had little or nothing to do with Romulans was what killed Nemesis for me.

^ Tribbles don't bother me so much, they are pretty well known outside of hardcore fandom (hell, my wife who hates everything S/F knows what tribbles are).

Plus, just having a tribble or two in some random corner of the frame is a lot more subtle than having Archer waltz into frame (I doubt Scott Bakula would show up without having dialog, and if they used another actor, they would have to say his name, or else he'd just be some random old fart).

A reference to Archer's Planet or Archer IV would suffice. Or his portrait along with portraits of April (Roddenberry) and Pike at retirement (Greenwood) on a wall in the briefing room: the wall we never saw in TOS... could have those pics and ship pics; just like how Cawley has done in NV.

That seems a little excessive... letting one cameo keep you out of a theater, kinda like avoiding a movie cause it has a trailer for another movie one might not care to see pasted infront of it is also an excessive reaction.

I don't see what'd be so bad about fanwank so long as it doesn't detract from the overall story. If it's appropriate for the story to show us the launch of the 1701-nil, then hell yes give me an Archer cameo, why not? If there's a sensible place where they can squeeze in a tribble, I want to see one!

A lot of cool easter-egg fanwanking might as well be done if it's congruent with the setting and flow of the story.
