Archer In Trek 08?

Son_of_Soong

Captain
Captain
No jokes in this thread this time :-P

Didn't he die the day the Enterprise was launched? That would mean hes alive during this movie, just... old.

He may have been around when the Enterprise launched but from what I can see of this movie is that it's not set during the launch but sometime during Kirk's graduation, which was a good 10 years or so after the launch of the ship. So unless they do show the actual launch of the ship and then skip forward 10 years then there could be a chance Archer may or may not be present in the movie.

Btw firt time post in this forum as I've been lurking most of the time here.

I think (hope) JJ is smart enough to stay away from gratuitous fanwank references, particularly those from a show many wish wasn't in canon to begin with.

To be honest I dont really like the idea of him being in the movie, was just wondering if it was possible. And yeah this is ym first day here.

Roberto Orci has indicated at www.trekmovie.com that the new film will acknowledge "Enterprise."

That said, stuff that's intended to be in a movie often winds up on the cutting room floor. One might guess that whatever reference there is to "Enterprise" is a bit of set dressing or something, and so might disappear if a given shot isn't used.

I'm sure he won't be in it. Abrams isn't stupid- it would look too much like fanboy stuff. Besides, most people (not me, btw) hated Enterprise. Showing Archer would not help this movie become a success.

I doubt we will see the launch of the Enterprise in this film. I think Pike will already be Captain the first time we see the ship.

I think the only way we might see Archer or any character from "Enterprise" would be in a set decoration - photograph, informational display, or something. But I'm guessing that if the indicated "acknowledgment" appears it'll be in the nature of a mention of NX-01 somewhere rather than the characters. Less "fanwanky" as we're saying these days.

How about the death of Archer then :-P

Haha. Well, no... most people wouldn't even know who the hell he is. Some anti-ENT Trekkies would probably jump to their feet and cheer.

I'm an Enterprise fan, but Archer just would not work in the film, unless he was wearing a shirt that said " I love Fanwankery!" then did a quantum leap out of there.:)

Yeah...that's just what we need to happen - leave Shatner out, but put Bakula in.

We'd need 50 more mods for this forum alone.

Without knowing how the film is structured, it's impossible for anyone to say... If just the trailer is set in 2245, then it's definitely not going to happen. Personally, I'm pro baton passing. I'd like to see an aged Archer at the ship's launch... much the same as McCoy walking the corridors with Data or having Cochrane originate the "Boldly Go" speech. Neither of these added anything to the plot. It's just the new gang tipping their hat to those who came directly before. The film should work on several levels, that's what makes Star Trek rewatchable. You spot the references the next time around. That's how long term fans of anything are rewarded. First time audiences follow the narrative, while the rest of us are busy nit-picking it to death.

The only kind of referance I expect is to see a display gallery of models or pictures of previous Enterprises which includes the NX-01.
