Anyone still build models?

Concerning "kitbashing", has anyone ever used the sloping triangular base from the older releases of the original Enterprise kit as a hull for some sort of smaller scout or private craft, somehow integrating the warp nacelles?

A fan TAS episode THE QUINTAIN had something similar.

Now, I might have that as a huge impulse deck on a larger model.

Maybe combined with the Excelsor stand.

One thing someone might want to try: Put a whole NX-01 in a sandbox with the top of the saucer flush with the top of the sand.

Remove---and sculpt that depression into a much larger saucer for a whole NX-lifeboat to detach from a larger ship.
Maybe a stand looking like an energy beam cutting a crater into the base---as if it were the surface of the Death Star or something.

I was building a 1:2500 Enterprise-D, but I put it away. I just wasn't enjoying myself.

The kit itself wasn't that good with massively thick spurs attached to the saucer peices that were almost impossible to remove without damaging the parts.

That, mixed with the rest of the overall build quality combined with my general neutral attitude towards the Enterprise-D, has her boxed and back on the shelf.

Maybe I'll finish her one day. Worst case, I'll throw it together and spray bomb the whole thing gold or something and call it a day.

For now, I've moved onto a far more interesting kit that will provide challenges that actually interest me, The Enterprise-C. She's molded in semi transparent white, so I'm thinking she's another opportunity to put one of my LED strings to use.

What's the story with the exposed machinery below the name? I've always wondered about that.

Well we had a ton of Reliant, about half as many Enterprise, no green hornet and as many mach 5's as Enterprise and Reliant combined. Probably picking up Enterprise later. Reliant ends up being a bigger model than Enterprise which I thought was interesting. The battle damage is a nice touch.

The only reason we have those at all is because Ollie's is a closeout store and they buy a TON of random stuff.

Like also with the model kits there are a ton of Eternals and Chang Chi toys nearby, and Silverstreak (JUST silverstreak) from the Transformers toyline and then Rogue (JUST Rogue) from the Age of Apocalypse toyline.

I used to live near a Hobby Lobby and a Michael's but they never stocked the Trek model kits. You'd occasionally see Star Wars or film based cars but it was mostly trains, trucks, cars and WW II military gear.
