Anyone still build models?

gUrA08Y.jpeg

Something new for the pile. I've started work on the 1:2500 Enterprise-D, butcI think this will be my next build. I'll probably try to light it the same way I did my Excelsior.

I could see that as a yacht

I admire your creative design and printing skills. The Enterprise is fantastic and I imagine it's difficult to print due to its large size.

Has anyone tried replicating canon ships creating by kitbashing (a somewhat common practice) by the same kitbashing they used to make it, instead of making a model of a kitbash?

I've seen a few people over the years build models the the ugly fleet or whatever it was called from DS9 using the same model parts they used in the show.

i dont buy and put together models of sci fi space ships or whatever.

once in awhile most of the time id buy Revell car models of stuff like a slug bug. I still have a 1971 Barricuda/Hemi Cuda car model i bought a few years ago from Hobby Lobby that i still need to put together

That's not mine...I wish it was.

I collect greeble...old vape pens I find....I really want to get some plastic pallets....were I to have the time and money.

I might want to have a small warehouse...and put greebles on the floor and let them tell me the arrangement they would like to be in.

Then build a hull worthy of them... rather than just having the hull first and just tacking things on.

Concerning "kitbashing", has anyone ever used the sloping triangular base from the older releases of the original Enterprise kit as a hull for some sort of smaller scout or private craft, somehow integrating the warp nacelles? During the mid 70s, my childhood buddy Kyle and I attempted such , but as we were still just "tweens", our results were less than...stellar. I wonder what a truly skilled modeler could achieve?

I used them as battle damage when we were wrecking our TOS and TMP kits from 'space battles' when we'd glue strips on the ships and then set them on fire to get that 'phaser' damage look.

My god how did I survive my teens.

Whenever Kyle and I respectively purchased and built another kit of the Enterprise, marginally improving our skills with each iteration (which wasn't really that much), we, too strategically "torched" selected spots upon our previous builds, turning them into the Constellation from "The Doomsday Machine".

Not that particular base (I find it too cool as a base to use it for anything else :) ), but I used the base that comes with the original Excelsior kit as a primary hull:

I've seen those Excelsior bases used in pairs to build pods for Nebula-ish ships. And someone's already mentioned that.

I'm actively working on a 3d printed Phase II at 1/650 at the moment, first round of smoothing. This is my first time working on a printed kit, so any tips would be greatly appreciated! Also have a couple of Hawks, an Eagle, and two AMT Enterprises halfway through. First real attempt at getting back into this after years away.
