Alien, Predator, AvP (news)

I think as a story it probably would've felt way more succesful if it was the pilot episode of a prestige streaming series rather than a theatrical film. The ending has that feeling of things having only just gotten started and the concept would be much easier to explore in depth as a series.

Agreed. I watched the movie after seeing Prey and I found it really good. Badass characters (Soldier, mercenary, drug cartel henchman, Yakuza killer!), drop immediately into the action - no need to establish the usual "protagonist dad separated from hot mother of their child(ren), getting together by end of movie when mom's new bf dies".

It would be awesome as a modern-day Netflix series. Plenty of twists to cover in each episode. "This trap is doing xyz. I know that because I placed such traps myself." Shock ending!
Ronald McNoland appears. Shock episode ending!
Noland flashback episode.
Noland betrayal - shock ending!
The doctor is evil - shock ending!
Etc.

Alien - Haunted House in Space
Aliens - Zombie Horde
Alien 3 - Depressive Victorian Horror
Alien Resurrection - Proto-Firefly with Aliens
Aliens Vs Predator - Resident Evil with Aliens and Predator but make it PG-13
Aliens vs Predator Requiem - Ok, back to an R rating but we have no idea what we're doing but MAKE IT DARK
Prometheus - Let's pretend the last two films don't exist, oh, and all our 'experts' are idiots to make the plot work
Alien Covenant - Yeah you know all those wild theories about where the Xeno's come from? Yeah, the android did it.

I would rather we went back to the Haunted House in Space.

If i rank them in order of my preferense it would be:
Aliens
Aliens vs Predator Requiem
Prometheus
Alien Covenant
Alien Resurrection
Aliens Vs Predator
Alien
Alien 3

I prefure for Aliens to have a challengine enemy, like Space marines, it makes the movie more interesting, instead of weak enemies that just there for the slaughter.

Requiem is your second favorite?!

Well, you do you, I guess.
It's actually one of the most unique movies in an entire franchise, as you are no longer dealing with an Alien threat somewhere far off in the future, or in far off land, but right here at home, in the present.

I did like the concept, but the execution was lacking and I don't know how much of that was budget, studio messing with it or what.

Still would have preferred a proper adaptation of the original comic series

Wow, I think you are the first person I've seen who has anything good to say about Requiem.

I was hoping this would become a trilogy, and we get a full earth invasion in the third movie.
Still was very scary, specially with the kid saying "there is a monster outside the window" - that was memorable.

They could start with one-----with the mass of the action in the daytime, for variety, perhaps in New York----but I'd follow that up in the second half with a full-blown destruction of the aliens' original planet....even if that doesn't jibe with PROMETHEUS, which I love anyway. Make it a three-hour AVENGERS ENDGAME-style franchise wrap-up to clear the way for the remake starring Ashton Kutchner {sic?}.

So, in the end, do the humans team up with the Engineers to fight the Xenomorphs, or do the humans team up with the Xenomorphs to fight the Engineers when they realize they have a common enemy and should join forces?

As long as it ends with a marine looking down at a xeno with fatherly pride saying 'That'll do, bug. That'll do.'

The life-cycle of the Xenomorph is a confining box of sorts.

Now, we have seen Giger’s dream.

That’s done.

My choice would be to have different artists each do a different “chapter” with the ALIEN having to deal with (first) Wayne Barlow’s creations:

His work is fully the equal of H.R.‘a and has a savage beauty all its own:

My ALIEN film would have only one “human”…a Deep Fake Ash replicant as the host of a pseudo Nature Documentary.

You see him looking at the camera, talking quietly, and we follow the travails of the xenomorphs…in this new hostile land. Face huggers latch on to some rather unremarkable creatures…and we see baby chestbursters getting boops from larger adults….before the daggerwrists raid the hive….no…they’re killed the Queen and have killed everything…

Our young baby burster is on the run from all sorts of flora and fauna…and now is all grown up and—damn it…that’s Pulse-Rifle fire!

Run!

Ash and the unseen Cameraman return fire and…we see the Cameraman…in the mid credits and the Cameraman is….

That's a terrifying thought, an enemy so dangerous that it would cause Xenos to ally themselves with Humans.

Is that even possible? Are Xenos capable of forming alliances and carrying out complex tasks? We have seen Predators doing this, but I'm not sure about Xenos.

I mean, that's kind of a burning question, innit? Are Xenos sentient?

A new movie could be exciting, especially if it gets back to sci-fi horror basics.

The Alien: Isolation video game and the anniversary shorts produced for release on IGN were some of the best franchise material in years.

And, rankings from my perspective:

1. Alien

2. Aliens
3. Alien 3

4. Prometheus
5. Alien Covenant

6. Alien Resurrection

7. Alien vs Predator

8. Alien vs Predator Requiem

My alien film rankings...

Alien
Aliens

Alien 3 (Assembly Cut)

Alien Resurrection
AVP

Prometheus

Covenant

AVP Requiem

I always find it quite different to rank the Alien movies, since they are so different in their styles.

Alien is a classic 70's horror if you ask me.
Aliens is the 80's American action movie.
Alien3 has this almost British film noir thing at times.
Alien Resurrection has a very European vibe to it.

Prometheus and Covenant (I am a huge fan of both movies btw) try and fit in with the look and feel of Alien.

If I had to....

Alien/Aliens on a shared first
Then Prometheus/Covenant (they are so very much linked as movies they can't be seperated)
Alien3 Assembly Cut
Alien Resurrection.

The AvP movies are not something I really consider part of this, although the first one was actually quite entertaining as a saturday night action flick with beers and snacks.
