I expected more from the previews. IMO it wasn't on Deke that this episode isn't so well received, it's Mack alone at home.
the killer robots storyline aka I'm lost, before activating chainsaw bloodspatter was funny.
the music and sound effects were well chosen.
Tube TV/VHS Coulson was hilarious too
Here is hoping for some Tron/Knight Rider whatever 80s action in neon spandex with more of the Gang.

I thought this one was pretty fun. Deke's gang was pretty funny.
I was a little annoyed that he was back to stealing stuff from the future, since I thought they had convinced him he shouldn't do that any more.
The '80s robot Chronochoms were hilarious, especially the one that was always pretending to be lost.
It was a little disappointing to see Mack shut himself off for so long. I understand he was depressed, but it did seem a little out of character for him to go off for so long.
I was a little annoyed that he was back to stealing stuff from the future, since I thought they had convinced him he shouldn't do that any more.

Everyone has their breaking point. And Mac is a guy that has a "death by robots" clause written into his life insurance, and he literally had to deal with two robots that murdered his parents and stole their faces. This is pushing all his buttons at once.
Also, it's not like he instantly gave up. He just went out to get some air for 5 mins and ended up getting stranded with no idea if Z1 would be back for him in 20 days or 20 years.
The name tag for Roxy Glass was "R. Glass."

Well, that was pretty cool, for an 80s homage. You can't beat the 70s, but they did okay. One weird thing is that the story was told in flashback by Deke's debriefing with May, which kind of gave away how things would turn out.
There was a lot to like here, and the 80s actually seem not so bad after everything that's come after. We got to see new sides to both Mack and Deke, which made it very interesting. Mack was well and truly broken by the deaths of his parents, so much so that he grew a Moses beard while remaining bald-- maybe male-pattern baldness is his superpower-- and turned into a couch potato. And Deke turned into a cheerleader and proxy for everything that Mack stood for until the big guy was ready to take up the mantle again. The best moment in the episode was learning that Deke had befriended young Mack and his brother and was helping to take care of them. This tells us what Deke is really made of on the inside.
On the outside, however, Deke is still the same old Deke-- although he really can put his faults to constructive use if he needs to. In the few months that Mack was crippled by debilitating depression, he put together his Inferior Five version of SHIELD and kept the candle burning for Mack. By stealing 80s songs. From Simple Minds and the Bangles. What will this do to the timestream?
But it all paid off and he was able to bring Mack around.
And, ah, the 80s homages. The green computer monitor logo. The deadly mall robots. The murdered groupie exsanguinating more blood than five people. The backlit foggy Spielberg shots. The posed poses and the bantering bon mots and the clunky camera angles. And, most beautiful of all, Phil Headroom. How I loved Phil Headroom.
Luckily, my worries about Mack and Deke growing old together were misplaced, since the Zephyr was only gone for less than two years. But it did make me wonder what is pulling them through time now, if the Commodorecom's ship was disintegrated. In any case, like Coulson, Sibyl managed to survive on her own backup drive and will shepherd her pawns through her rebuilding process, no matter how much moonlighting is involved.

The Swayze bar had to be nod to "Roadhouse" and we also got the "Doctor Who" Exterminate line. We also got a "Short Circuit" reference. As for Mac's beard, my theory is he did shave. He just put on a fake beard all the time in order to embrace his sadness. Otherwise they wouldn't have gotten such a fake looking beard for him.

And let's not forget Mac's callout to Powerhouse's awesome song from the end credits of Commando. I'd also be willing to bet it wasn't an accident that l'il Mac's house was reminiscent of the McFly home.

Mack being a mope...he had to kill chronicoms that looked exactly like his parents after finding out they had already killed his parents. He earned the right to mope and be a shitty friend to Deke. Deke knew this and was being patient with his emotionally distraught friend.

I wasn’t thrilled with this one, the first episode I didn't like this season. It was a weird balance of goofy spoofery and Mac’s emotional crisis. I would have been fine with one of the other.
The fake beard and Cleanly bald head was distracting. And Deke is able to just be a pal to a family of kids and an uncle out of nowhere? Seeing how he accomplished that would have answered a few questions I had.

I think this is the first episode in which Daisy did not appear. Even in "4722 Hours" she briefly appeared on Jemma's phone screen.
He was filming a Miniseries at the time.
Saw this posted on Reddit, it's apparently from the director of Chopping Mall's facebook page. He's claiming Agent's of SHIELD plagiarized the movie.

I had no idea it was a real movie. Sounded like something made up as a gag. And I watched a lot of horror films in the 80's .I guess the guy has never heard of a tribute before.

I just read his open letter too (the director of Chopping Mall). Either he's completely unaware of the concept of making a loving homage, or he's faking outrage to try to get some money out of them. Considering his note on "at least let me direct the episode" I'm going to assume the latter.
