I don't feel that the show has suffered due to the movies. It's a popular opinion in some circles but that doesn't make it so.
Did anyone notice that Skye called Raina Sonic the Hedgehog?
.
I think the whole tie in would gave worked a wee bit better if Coulson had gotten a cameo in the movie and 30 seconds of heroic actions like saving one of the Avengers or actually being in command of the helicarrier instead of Fury.
I know Whedon didn't want that headscratcher in the movie because it would require some explanation for the audience who don't watch the show.
But a single tongue in cheek reference would have done it.
"Coulson? How the hell..."
"You'd be anazed what a trip to Tahiti can do for your health, Cap, it's a magical place. I'll tell you the whole story later (or buy the Agents of SHIELD DVDs instead), right now we have to get those people to safety!"

I confess that joke flew completely over my head.
I'm old and barely know who Sonic the Hedgehog is. Some kid's cartoon character, right?

Actually, the instant that random guy with dark curly hair and a necktie appeared on the helicarrier, I wondered if that role could have been filled by Coulson. And it really could have. He didn't even have to communicate with any of the Avengers - and a throwaway line to Fury or Hill would cover the "what's HE doing there?" people.
It would be a good nod to the series, and deserved really. I'm sure most casual fans would have heard obliquely that Clark Gregg was starring in a SHIELD television show, even if they'd never watch it.

Kal grew on me. If he wasn't a mass murderer, he'd be great.I'm sorry. Was that old? That looked old.
I hope he doesn't get possessed again.Mack did mention that he was going to the carrier to pick up his things first. And, well, there just happens to be an alien something of interest on the carrier.Mack, at least, wasn't out of character in leaving, but I was disappointed anyway. I really wanted him to reconcile with Fitz and stay with the team. Maybe it will still happen, but I imagine that a war with the Inhumans will only convince him that he was right.
They did show the aftermath on a screen in the background and they pointed out that a week went by. They had more pressing issues, the Inhumans. The problem with this tie-in, though, is that it's neither here nor there. It changes the storyline of the show, but it does so in a single conversation about events that have already happened without even showing a single clip of what Ultron did.
Kinda,,,...Netflix shows like Daredevil have it better in the latter regard, since their characters are unconnected to the movie characters and can thus follow their own independent story arcs...

Ben, the reporter, wrote a story on the Hulk and a Levethian (the flying monster in Avengers). The article is seen in the background of his office. Also, I remember a baddie pointing out Daredevil "didn't have fancy armor or a magic hammer" or something like that. They gave the MCU a nod.
Yeah, but nobody minds much when a widely disliked movie is retconned by a later one. The Avengers was anything but widely disliked.Days of Futures Past brought back Xavier without a word and it was still blockbuster.
Honestly, I was surprised when that wasn't revealed in the final scene of that movie. It seemed like they were telegraphing it all along.Besides, in the first Avengers, Fury said Coulson was dead but after Hill said "those cards were in his locker", Fury said "They needed the push". Those who haven't watched the show can figure Fury simply lied and Coulson lived or was revived after the medical team got there.
Agents of Shield doesn't surprise me and I was a bit concerned about Agent Carter until a week or so ago when Haley Attwell's photo session at C2E2 said it was likely!
OH, that's just the universe being a jerk.
She's done nothing wrong.
And there could be plenty of reasons why the Mockingbird pilot didn't get made.
