Agents of SHIELD - Season 2 Discussion Threads. (Spoilers Likely)

So, the teaser for next week...

Is Simmons really working for HYDRA, or did she just infiltrate them on Coulson's orders?

Great trailer for next week, for sure.

I was very happy to see Fitz contribute in a useful manner tonight. There had to have been a reason they were keeping him around after all. Also interesting to see him look straight at Simmons when Mac mentioned about how she was gone. So he knows he's halucinating.

I think we can safely say that Hartley and Idaho are done and gone.

Odd to see a little picture cameo of Agent Carter again this week, while Coulson was navigating the Jedi Holocron.

Also, am I correct in assuming that Coulson's current base of operations is an old SSR base? I thought I saw some SSR logos lying around. (Because spy agencies have to keep everything well branded, of course.)

Consider me somewhat surprised that Coulson is willing to share his alien writing visions with May, but not with Skye. Seems like Skye would be a logical choice to include on that secret, since he's having her investigate the writing, and since she was injected with the same alien stuff herself. That said, maybe he's slightly suspicious of her, since she is an 084 after all. Maybe he's slightly worried that she might turn out to be working for the other side (the alien side).

Nice to see Raina tonight, up to all her good old ways.

Really enjoyed this episode.

After an unimpressive debut, I thought the Lance Hunter character came up strong and should be a good addition to the team. Same with Mack (aka Not Dwayne Johnson) who worked well with Finch. Liking Adrian Pasder's involvement on this show as Talbot and his hunt of the team. Glad to see the return of Raina.

Movie Coulson seems to be returning a little too with the humor "We just changed the bathroom tiles" comes to mind. The humor/language seems just a touch more adult I've noticed with the new timeslot which is also good

Liked Kyle MacLachlan in his brief appearance. I was surprised to see those background scientists at the SSR base. I thought too that they were figments of Fitz's imagination but apparently not. Just how many people does Coulson have under him?

He's been travelling the world months, looking people in the eye, shaking their hand, and making sure that they are on the level and not going to stab him in the back.

And we also met (presumably) Skye's father, which was a bit of an odd reveal since he just appears to be a normal guy. I thought when we finally saw his face it would be more dramatic.

He may be able to assume different forms, he didn't look too good wrapped in bandages in the tub last time they showed him.

Fine episode. As others pointed out, it's good to see Fitz back in action. I was slightly perturbed that Coulson is still so trusting, giving Hunter that chance to shoot his team members in the back. True, at the end of the episode, Coulson pointed out that someone he trusted (Hartley), trusted Hunter, but he also trusted Garrett, and that didn't turn out well.

I'm also curious about where Raina gets her intel from. I'm assuming it's of alien origin if it's able to beat Shield and Hydra to the Absorbing Man.

Mack is OK so far, but I got him confused with the Absorbing Man once or twice. Hopefully the next villain isn't bald and near the same skin tone.

I'm not sure why, but I have a feeling he was talking to an AI, specifically Carter (similar to Zola's downloaded brain).

Asgardians, Xandarians, and Frost Giants (in some cases) look human. Maybe it's a thing.

^A spoiler tag wouldn't hurt.
What do you mean? The Words of Creation have already been established.

It's just now I'm expecting the words of creation to be covered in episode 4, though with last nights episode, as well as the first, it seems like an ongoing deal.

So Raina now works for Skye's father (Kyle MacLachlan).

I'm not that invested in the new characters/team members. They killed off Lucy Lawless after just one appearance. The British guy who survived the car crash and then got apprehended by General Talbot had questionable motives.

Are you kidding? That was Kyle MacLachlan. That bloke is *defiantly* an alien. I'm guessing Skrull..also, I'd wager he's playing one on this here TV show too! ;)

That was my assumption, yes.

While I was never liked the character of Fitz and I didn't like the actor Iain De Caestecker in the first season. I was actually hoping that his character would be killed off. I'm actually really liking his character this season. I'm especially liking the interplay between Fitz and Mac.

SHIELD hit an all time low in ratings last night. I really fear this show's days are numbered. I'm hoping Agent Carter turns out a lot better so that Marvel won't cease trying to have a hit show.

Here's the great thing about cancellation handled by a real ####.

The entire cast gets murdered, and Hydra wins.

It's hit 1.7 twice before and was then adjusted upwards. It was apparently adjusted to 1.8/5, which is the same as TAHITI. It's on the low end, but I'm not certain it's an all time low. Worth keeping an eye on for sure, but not a dramatic difference from the ratings for quite awhile (nor is it the demo ratings, which are usually a bit better).

I wonder how much the 8:30 show killed ratings. Looking at the list you see 5.31 for Selfie, 5.05 for Agents of SHIELD with a drop to 4.70 in the middle. Given that every other show had hour long programs, you had a million people just leave and go to cable or turn off the television in the half hour between one show ending and Agents of SHIELD starting. The only reason this probably isn't true is that the demos seem very different, but maybe Karen Gillan had some cross-appeal.

Maybe the sense of Empire is more important than every room in the castle being excessively profitable?

It's possible that if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't a vanity project, then it's a training farm (for behind and infront of the camera.) Joss uses on stringers before he will let them into Avengers II and III?

The Captain America...

Agent 13 spent 5 years on Everwood with Chris Pratt as his sister.

Because they are friends, if they are friends, they might ask for some screen time together, and who the hell knows which movie/tv show that will wind up being in?
