Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

I agree, it's one of the things I love about Trek as well. Although I want to see how that promise of a shiny future deals with the threat of full scale war.

okay, but in that case, it'd still be apocalyptic, won't it? it'd be a war movie.

True, but I'd still love to see it in a Trek film.

I know, I know. I did so want a Niner movie. but it was not to be.

I just don't know if it will work now... who knows, though. you might still get your wish.

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

I just want to see the Cardassians in action on the big screen...
How long before the DS9 time line did Cardassia become a dictatorship?

It was never explicitly stated but I believe that it may be at last several centuries old. The Cardassians have had warp drive for at least 500 years so they are a pretty well established civilization in the AQ.

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

I'd like to see the Federation enforce the taxation of trade routes.

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

hey, I just posted over in the Trekmovie news thread (the one with Orci and Kurtzman talking about the sequel) about Prime Kirk being the arch-villain. think about it. it'll kill two birds with one swift stone.

Mercy me... I confess this might quite possibly be my nightmare scenario for the sequel

It might very well be successful financially, but it's sooooo gimmicky, and it would guarantee another plot as convoluted as the one in the current movie.

You are an evil genius of plot speculation ;)

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

No, no, no! Wars will just mean eye candy and explosions. Besides, Star Trek, particularly the originals have had an anti-war theme where wars are narrowly averted. Its indicative of our generation that we want Star Trek to be about war so that the audience can sit watching it and be like "Americaaa fuck yeah!!!" world police style.

DS9 managed to do war well because it had an entire series to expand upon it. Stand alone films wont do for a war story.

Lets return to the theme of sci-fi and exploration.

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

Doesn't matter. What's the difference between a war and an isolated battle if the movie is only going to focus on one ship and one crew, anyway?

"Intergalactic" is an idea, though. Who's up for seeing the Kelvins on the big screen in all their giant tentacled glory?

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

since in the new timeline vulcan is destoyed, we can have some new badass try to move in on the Federation

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

In all honesty, on some level, I just don't see how you can do the story of James T. Kirk, in any continuity, without doing some variation of "The City on the Edge of Forever." It's a vital story that fundamentally informs the character, in my opinion; if you don't do some version of that story, then I almost don't see that you really have James T. Kirk.

Harlan Ellison, is that you?

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

... Let's see the Federation and the Alpha Quadrant on the brink of a full scale Intergalactic War ... The destruction of Vulcan could be a catalyst for other powers agressions because they feel like the Federation has weakened. Maybe have it center around tensions between the UFP and the Klingon Empire. Throw in some other Alpha and Beta Quadrant powers like the Romulans and Cardassians.

Er ... ah ..don't you mean intragalactic war? An intergalactic war would have the governments of multiple galaxies at war.

War. Bigger explosions. More starship-shredding eye candy. Dude, you are so right! That's exactly what Star Trek needs.

Nope, because I think the story works better if Kirk stops Bones from saving Edith than if Spock does. ;)

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

How about this?

Old Mirror Kirk (Shatner with a beard) comes back through a space hole and starts wrecking up the joint.

-Plot stolen from indranee's daddy

How about Gary Seven and the aliens he works for as a villian?

The idea has alot of things going for it. It would be a familiar villian from the show. He works for aliens we never saw which means we could see some really neat looking aliens in the new movie. Plus he has a bunch of kewl gadgets. I like the idea that he and Kirk are at odds as to how to prevent a wat between the Federation and klingons.

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

I dunno. I'd like these new Star Trek films to be as mental as possible. Alien weirdness freaking everyone out. No bumpy foreheads.

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

What the next film should have:

* Space

* The final frontier

* The voyages of the starship Enterprise

* An event from its five-year mission

* Exploration of strange new worlds

* Seeking out of new life

* Seeking out of new civilizations

* Boldly going where no one has gone before.

Therefore: no all-out war. Let George Lucas keep that one.

Re: How about Gary Seven and the aliens he works for as a villian?

In what time period would we see him? 2260s? 1960s? 2011?

Re: How about Gary Seven and the aliens he works for as a villian?

He's not quite villainous, is he? Actually, that could be a bonus.

My pick for the role: William Fichtner.
