Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War
I gotta tell you, all this talk about bringing in Khan or retreading another classic story for the sequel has got me worried.
Let's see something we've never seen before in a Trek movie. Let's see the Federation and the Alpha Quadrant on the brink of a full scale Intergalactic War. Tell me you wouldn't like to see a young Kirk and Spock dealing with the tensions of being on the front lines of a potential Federation War.
The destruction of Vulcan could be a catalyst for other powers agressions because they feel like the Federation has weakened. Maybe have it center around tensions between the UFP and the Klingon Empire. Throw in some other Alpha and Beta Quadrant powers like the Romulans and Cardassians.
I guess you can argue they touched on something like this in ST:VI, but I'm talking BIG scale, BIG budget space armada type stuff like they can do now. That would really be something to see.
