The studios don't greenlight every decision a director makes. That would be micromanagement. The studio greenlights projects presented to them by producers.. The producers .. (a nebulous term as there are many different types) can be the one that insures that the film has the tone, voice, time period, etc, and another producer can make sure that the budget is balanced, locations are set etc. Studios do not micromanage and approve every decision, otherwise nothing would get done. Also, many directors are given final cut, while newer directors are not.You truly show that you simply have no clue what you're talking about. On any level.
The studio has to greenlight every decision the director makes, they can simply strike things off in the budgeting phase, or in the editing phase. The director doesn't have as much control as you think. Why do you think it comes across as a big deal when a director negotiates having the final say over the theatrical cut of a film?
