A ‘Star Wars’ Movie Directed by a Woman Is ‘Absolutely’ Happening, Vows Kathleen Kennedy

the people making these films don't recognize that they have the greatest fictional characters ever, that they have billions of fans, they'd rather use it to serve up their over simplified sense of social justice..but with a kindergarten level of depth (much like how RJ's script went into the politics of war and the issues of slavery and animal cruelty in tLJ with a kindergarten level of depth)

He gets sucked into a computer and he is ready to kick ass during his first fight like he is Russell Crowe in Gladiator. That lack of verisimilitude drives me crazy. There are too many cocky, born-fighter Mary Sues in action movies today. Male or female, I hate it.
He might have been ready to kick ass, (despite him asking a ton of WTF questions) but as I've demonstrated, he certainly did not

I just love the cookie cutter politics here, the lip service to actual issues, particularly to a franchise that is supposed to be about adventure, excitement and myths, where the people in universe certainly are not preoccupied as JJ and his cronies are about whether someone is Latino or Norweigan or not (please find on a SW map where any of our diversity issues would apply)

Star Wars is ‘right’ as long as it is majority white on the screen and men and women stay in their traditional places, and white men are in control behind the scenes.

I know you’ll deny it, but that is exactly what your posts say.

Too bad, so sad, oh well. Somehow, despite this obvious political agenda (trademark pending) the franchise will survive.

Oh, and it will have more female fans, more younger fans, and people who enjoyed the films despite the handwringing of a minority of fans who somehow think BTS problems impact the movies they are watching.

tl:dr This "problem" is not actually a problem.

Unfortunately, that's what it seems to boil down to. It doesn't come across "I want diversity but also a good story." It's "I don't want this franchise to ever change."

That is the death knell of a franchise. But, perhaps that is what is desired here is for SW to burn to the ground.

but isn't JJ the ultimate bigot..? he said "thought about building a story witha female protagonist, a set of 4 main characters one of whome was Latinx, one of whom was a nigerian Londoner, one of whom was a woman, a white woman, and one of whom was a white guy" Goes the SW maps look like our world map?

No matter what race or gender you make someone, in the SW universe, that label that is so important on this planet really doens't tell anyone about who they are over there; such labels have have nothing to with the actual characters and characterization in the context of Star Wars .. you guys want real world politics in SW, but most people don't. JJ's assistant says "how can we find a way to haev every kid who is going to see that movie see a version of themselves, in a way that isn't often considered at that scale?" I'mm pretty sure that millions on millions of people that didn't look at like Luke Skywalker still loved that character back in the day

Yes, they do realise what they have got and know their business far better than you.

Luke Skywalker is NOT one of the greatest fictional characters ever.

Thus far, it hasn't impacted the movie itself. So, BTS drama is pretty much BS in terms of my enjoyment. So, why don't we stop acting like these "politics" have some how ruined the films? Otherwise, I would reject the original SW as liberal propaganda that villanized the United States of America and treated terrorists as heroes.

REY: stop taking my hand!

BTW if Star Wars was presented in a more realistic light, the rebels would probably have to be seen as terrorists corrupted by years of conflict.

In some comics they are regarded as terrorist. And, a strict literal read of the movie is that a farm boy joins a terrorists cell after being inspired by a religious fanatic.

That's one for the kids.

The rebels are not terrorists. They were soldiers in a just war against the Empire.

That is your read of it. Doesn't make it the correct or only read. Lots of people see the United States in the same light as the Empire (with understandable reasoning), if they grouped up and attacked the US, I don't doubt you would be calling them terrorists.
