What are your thoughts on this week's episode?

That bit where that girl's head poked her head out of the loo was Hilarious.

Reminded me of Terminator 2 3D.
Reminded me of a Japanese ghost story.

There is obviously something the doctor is not mentioning in this episode that he drops hints at but says nothing more. I hope they pick up on that next week and don't leave us with more questions. This episode was just getting interesting as it finished so i'll wait for next week to see how the rest of it goes.

The only thing I'm curious about from this episode is what do you suppose the Doctor was up to in the beginning when he wanted to drop Amy and Rory off for fish and chips and take off by himself? Hmm.
Maybe he decided that if she actually was pregnant, it'd be best not to expose her to the dangers they regularly experience (lots of running, alien probing, etc.), which might in turn endanger the baby.

"Bye-bye, Ponds, enjoy your fish and chips, back in a mo'" (and then not turn up again for five years) :D

Oh, and did anyone notice that the BBCAmerica logo was gone from the end of the credits this time?

I voted right in the middle. Hopefully the second part will help overall.

I feel like The Doctor's Wife could have made a better 2-parter than this, and A Good Man Goes To War as well, might have been better as a 2-parter, though that remains to be seen (literally).

Still, good suspenseful episode this.

Hmm, interesting to see a lot of people not liking this, I thought it was fantastic. Very old School Who, great location, novel little twist on the base under siege trope (being under siege from themselves). Pretty much the only thing I didn't like was the silly long neck gag, apart from that I thought it was brill and gave it a geronimo.

For me this along woth The Doctor's Wife are the high parts of the season. Hope part two lives up to this.

Oh, and for those who think it's not a great episode unless we actually learn something, what exactly did we learn this episode? The Doctor wears a size 10 wide shoe. Hoo boy, can I stand the excitement.

That actually made me smile since that's the same shoe size I wear.

without this thread turning to a shoe feitsh threads, I wear the same size shoe as well. Made me feel very connected to the Doctor.

There is no way that Amy is going to let the Doctor go off by himself, lest it be the last time she sees him before he turns up on that beach and gets shot by the astronaut.

I'm also a size 10 :)

If this ends up being the explanation for the shooting, then I'll be annoyed because Canton specifically said "that is the Doctor, and he is dead". There needs to be a very specific way to get around that event without ripping off the audience. I'll be annoyed if it's resolved by going back on what Canton said.

I remember reading a location filming report that said there was some action involving Sontarans and a castle. So maybe Lonemagpie's original theory was right and the Sontarans are involved. Maybe this will be a lead in of sorts into episode 7. Perhaps the Alliance captures Amy?

I actually thought he was going for this story right here. The impression I've been getting is he doesn't know what's up with Amy's pregnancy, but doesn't want to put her in danger. Since he knows that some of these events are about to transpire, he wanted her out of the way before that happened.

BTW, when Jen punched through the bathroom stall, I nearly jumped through my skin (uh, no pun intended?).

Anyway, it's not the most original concept, but it's still a nice concept. It strikes me as being similar to a better Enterprise episode in that it introduces a nice concept but, before fully exploring it, they start fighting each other instead (it's also the same concept as Sim, but handled in a very different way). I like it. If I had to classify the type of story, it's very similar to the Impossible Planet, which I rate as a fairly solid, but not spectacular New Who episode.

The most intriguing thing for me is the Doctor being here before. That's the key mystery that needs solving. This can't end with them escaping, there's a bigger picture. Also, that bigger picture leads me to believe this isn't the Nestene. I thought for a bit it might be, but there's clearly some Earth historical consequence the Doctor is addressing.

They might have thought there were Sontarans because the suits that the people in the castle use are very similar. Probably just an honest mistake.

I don't think its been reported here yet...

5.7 million viewers watched episode five according to unofficial overnight figures.

The story, written by Matthew Graham, attracted 29.3% of the overnight audience and was the second most-watched programme of the day. The most-watched programme was Britain's Got Talent with 10 million watching.

Doctor Who had a million more viewers than the third placed programme Casualty. Against the Doctor, Sing If You Can on ITV had 4.1 million watching. 0.84 million watched Doctor Who on BBC One HD.

The BBC One audience once more peaked when Doctor Who was on, rising to 5.9 million during the programme and dropping to 2.8 million as Doctor Who finished

Probably final figures should be somewhere around 7.5 million then.

The Doctors Wife had a final official rating of 7.97 million viewers, a 34.7% share of the audience.

Geronimo! That one rocked!! Excellent characterization. Great concept. Creepy atmosphere! Loved it!

Ratings won't drop below 7 this season with live+7 coming into play.

Yeah, excellent use of Dusty Springfield as well, the second time that record started up was a wonderfully creepy moment!

I loved the Doctor's microwave test as well. "That's hot."

They made a relatively big fuss about the shoes in this episode. My theory is that in the next episode, they will use the shoes to distinguish the real Doctor from his ganger (I'm assuming the ganger "scanned" the Doctor at the beginning of the episode, hence the ganger Doctor will have (an exact copy of) the Doctor's original shoes, while the real Doctor wears the borrowed shoes).

I think Rory glommed on to the ganger girl because it was one of the few times of late where someone has needed him, when he could be the hero. It gives him a purpose rather than just following around his wife and her exciting, heroic, always-saves-the-day, Doctor.

I agree. Also recall that at the end of the last episode, Rory was upset because he watched Idris die, and that it "got to him" (as he is a nurse). It's possible that he wants to save Jennifer so that he wouldn't have to see her die as well.
