Another great episode this season, had a classic Doctor Who feel to it which I loved. A+

Look forward to Part 2. I hope they don't leave us with the Ganger Doc being our Doc and the real one dying though, if they pulled something like that, I'd throw my tv out the window.

Oh yeah, and Muse at the beginning was just great! Love the band, good music, nice to see them just being social in the TARDIS and having fun.

Speaking of which, the Doctor Ganger did look quite like Odo.
I thought the 'gangers in general did, actually.

So they all look the same to you, huh?
No, just Odoish in the make-up.

Nope, but there was an establishing shot of Earth at the beginning. And they did say it's the 22nd century, at which time we're not yet spacefaring in Who, I don't think..
Just checked the setting for Nightmare Of Eden, and it's set circa 2116 at a time when humans are apparently comfortable with interstellar travel. Had thought that it was 2100, but eitherway it seems way too early.

Is it just me, or is this season missing some of the energy, some of the frizzle and sizzle of last year? Last year got me into the show, I can't help but thinking that if I would've tuned in this year as a one-off viewer, I probably wouldn't have come back for more. Don't get me wrong, I'm still entertained by the show, but that undefinable something that gave the show its edge (and pushed me over the edge into becoming a regular viewer) last year, seems to be missing for me now.

THIS

The Rebel Flesh, I thought it was ok, hard act to follow after last week. Nice to see Marshall Lancaster who was one of my favourites from Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes. The plot rather reminds me of The Thing/Surrogates/The Fifth Day. Interesting for once to see Amy jealous as Rory gets the attention.
Gonna be fun next week with the ganger Doctor!

Agreed. "The Impossible Astronaut" was the best of the season. "Day of the Moon" jumped around too much and had holes in the plot. "Curse of the Black Spot" was okay, but had major character problems. "The Doctor's Wife" was too madcap for my taste. And "The Rebel Flesh" was predictable and slow. I haven't really hated any episodes, and I've watched each a couple times, at least, but Series Five was so much more exciting and better written/run/paced.

Maybe I was expecting too much after last season.

Hm. I liked some of it, but like others it just didn't engage enough. As soon as I knew about the whole ganger thing it was so obvious someone would get cloned and so obvious it would be The Doctor and not one of the companions. I liked that the TARDIS sank and I liked the burning shoes. I disagree with others that they don't need to show The Doctor looking at Amy's pregnancy scan. I think he was actually going to do something about it ("just dropping you two off for fish and chips") but the storm interrupted him. The Eyepatch lady... no idea, but I'm not opposed to seeing her. Something is obviously going on there.

I voted the third option. I was ready to absolutely hate this episode after seeing the trailer but it pleasantly surprised me. Anything they showed after last week would have been a let down but this was actually decent. Yeah I got the impression that the Doctor was about to do something about Amy's fluctuating pregnancy scans before Amy insisted that they tag along. The Eyepatch Lady...have no idea either.

Eyepatch Lady is puzzling me. She seems to be checking in on Amy, whose temporally fluxing pregnancy appears to be significant in the Silent's plan. Of course, after the events of TIA, and the 3 months gap of the Doctor's incarceration in A51, she's probably about 4 or 5 months into the pregnancy, her belly should be puffing out and in if the pregnancy is off and on again in such quick succession.

I think we could find out that all of these events are actually in Amy's mind, that she's been in the same place, either being played fantasy scenarios, or having her memories probed and replayed, and possibly the Dr's death in the first episode is a part of that fiction. Eyepatch Lady's first words were to suggest that Amy was only dreaming.

Whatever it is, I have great confidence in the Moff to completely surprise us and give us a stonking good tale. It's what he does.

Average for me. Still an enjoyable average.

Don't know if this has been mentioned since I haven't read through the whole thread but...

Did anyone notice the change in the house of cards on the table when the Doctor was sitting there? In most of the shots, the cards you could see on the left were a face card and a club. Then, in one scene, right when Jennifer runs off to the bathroom, the cards are two diamonds, then right before Marshall Lancaster's character knocks them down, they're back to the face card and club. Maybe it means something. Or maybe it's just a minor error if they had to rebuild the house for a retake.

Voted the second one. It was entertaining but nothing special. Maybe the second part will be better. Is this possibly how the Auton's came into being?

Only if they (or rather the Nesteene Consciousness) know how to travel time because they've shown up on Earth a few times before the time this episode is set in. I can't remember whether this was ever established. I'm not too fond of the idea that the ability to time travel is commonplace in the Whoniverse.

I kept getting hung up on the idea that there's an island (somewhere) with a castle that is pumping acid from somewhere to somewhere else for no apparent reason, especially when there's a big nasty Space Storm coming. WTF?

Yeah, the science was rather shoddy. Which isn't unusual in Who but it sort of bugged me, too. While the effects of the solar storm looked great I did roll my eyes at it because I don't think you would actually see a solar storm on Earth. Also, malus points for the exploding computers and acid tubes. That didn't really make sense.

I don't think that the Doctor that gets shot in TIA is the clone Doctor because he remembered all this stuff he did with River and also he was in the process of regenerating which I doubt the flesh can replicate.

Really? Mmh, I'm also watching the Hinchcliffe era episodes at the moment and I didn't make that connection.

Holy Jeez that was a scary episode. I'm thinking that I'm not going to watch that again. It's the type of stuff that unnerves people and it's kind of sad that the FleshJennifer turned dark at a snap. The FleshBoss then fell into a subordinate role.

I did like the Doctor although he seemed to fall into his problems. The strong role then went to Rory - who's getting better each time. Of course I think this is a situation that the Doctor could have afforded to avoid.

The music kind of reminded me a bit of Dudley Simpson's scores for the early Fourth Doctor stories, to add to the Hinchcliffe connection.

As for the seasons, Doctor Who has had 'meh' or just plain bad seasons in the past. The tone of this season overall seems a bit like a Graham Williams kind of WHO, which had a less epic/serious feel than the previous seasons but still had some good moments (and I think that was the period when WHO got it's best ratings!).

The only thing I'm curious about from this episode is what do you suppose the Doctor was up to in the beginning when he wanted to drop Amy and Rory off for fish and chips and take off by himself? Hmm.

Oh, and for those who think it's not a great episode unless we actually learn something, what exactly did we learn this episode? The Doctor wears a size 10 wide shoe. Hoo boy, can I stand the excitement.
