Spoilers 31st/32nd Century Ships Revealed

I'd like to see more of that Vertical starship. About time Starfleet made a ship like that!
New Vertiform Class ;)

The Burn happened 700 years after 2258. 2258 + 700 = 2958 = 30th century.

EDIT: Or at least the dilithium supply dried up 700 years later. The Burn happened sometime after that.
And it wouldn't make sense if the ships kept flying for 100 years with dilithium gone until the active cores blew up - unless they all got the last bits and they last 100 years with recrystallization...

A new ship thread for people to complain about!

We saw some of these saucer sections in close up but it's hard to put the whole picture together in detail.

If this is a literal interpretation of the occurrence why are all the ships together?

For a rare once, it's likely to be symbolic. So we have to forgo establishing the location of the warp core on each design on the basis of the kabooms...

My spidey senses are telling something is going down if Starfleet had gathered that many ships together.

Very cool! I see similarities to the Enterprise-J from "Azati Prime" in some of these. Others are standard-ish "melted" generically-advanced-futuristic Enterprise-ish shapes.
Shitloads of all new different designs! No reuses of season 1 production assets! Still wondering why we see a Hiawatha and a Hoover crash!
Likely because none of the ships have any detail. They're just smooth shapes seen in the distance, made in little time. The Hiawatha model is highly detailed for close-ups and was likely rigged to crumble for it's appearance in "Brother", only it's being shot differently this time.

Unfortunately, I’m forced to agree with you, at least until we see that scene and get the context.

They appear to have quite a detailed model of that one ship with the convoluted saucer section. It does vaguely recall the Ent J.

god im hoping Discovery Season 3 leads to a spin-off about the Federation dealing with this dilithium crisis. I mean yeah we all know what happens but still that's still a century (in-universe) worth of stories.

Probably because the models ofall those ships exploding weren't done to the point that they could be used in a complex close-up shot without a lot of extra work. What you saw there probably were some quick thumbnail designs worked up for the selection process (and probably done during/for previous seasons). We're seeing them all from a far distance; they don't move at all; none are really high resolution, and they're on screen for a total of 5 seconds before they all explode with pretty much the same simple explosion graphic.

At least one of them we will be seeing up close, you can see it in one trailer, let me see if I can find it.

Looks like another similar/identical saucer behind and to the left of the close-up one. It's pretty far away, but you can see the criss-cross bits.

Yes, but we're definitely going to see at least two of those ships close-up, since we can see them on the Discovery viewscreen four seconds into this scene:

Well we're all just speculating here. It could be that all the ships there are in fact finished models that will be used later in the season. It's possible perhaps they weren't done by the time some of the shots people have talked about were composited and rendered.

COVID -19 threw a wrench into their post production process big time. Who knows how long it was before they had a real working process for the VFX in place and what they did in the meantime while they were working towards that point and trying to get the early episodes that were available to be worked on done.
