2239 Discovery Shuttles used in 3188?!?!?! - Trekyards Analysis

so you're more story-focused and don't care about design details, ships, timelines, etc.
other people do (see above).

It's hardly a question of not caring. I just don't place the same level of emphasis upon it as others do.

As an example, the re-use of footage of various battles in the DS9 finale did not affect my enjoyment of the episode enough to draw me out of the story and the moment.

And about other ships being reused all the time in previous Trek - show me all those ENT or FC designs that kept appearing all over TNG-VOY without time travel being involved.

The only footage reuse that annoyed me was the GEN BoP explosion from TUC

None of it bothers me, which is not the same as 'not caring'. I love Star Trek. I grew up with it. My investment is in the characters, the stories, the exploration of human nature and who we are. I can live with SFX being re-used and with the appearance of a DSC shuttle in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment of no consequence to me.

Maybe someday we will get that position posted to just review MA and such to support this expansive universe. If I were writing my own universe then I would do that. But, Star Trek is too little too late, for my money. Of course, that might be me being sore about the Technical Manual being thrown out by GR. :shifty:
he can't throw it out. he's dead and it's on multiple movies.

(Hint: There are none.)
Yep, so we have 2 major poles here: The characters/story/humanity only pole, and the ships/tech/designs only pole, and I'm sure most fans are in between and find both important

This. For me I don't mind the larger minutia because I want to be invested in the story, the characters, and their emotions in that moment. It's not that minutia doesn't matter but that it doesn't matter to me in the moment.

That's the joke...

Well, it would've been hard for the Enterprise assets to show up in TNG-VOY, unless you had a time machine. Though the D-7 does show up in Enterprise, and a Voyager model with a new mesh and third nacelle shows up in one of the season three episodes.

As far as First Contact goes, Berman kept the movie models from showing up on the various TV series. Though the NX-01 had the moniker "Akiraprise" hung on it because it looks so much like the Akira-class from the movie. Rumor has it that Berman originally just wanted to bring the Akira over without any changes.

So there were no ships from several centuries before on any other Trek production before Disco and PIC. Right?

From my point-of-view, you kind of have to hit both targets to some degree. Something obviously visually wrong can throw me out of the story pretty quickly.

You responded to: And about other ships being reused all the time in previous Trek - show me all those ENT or FC designs that kept appearing all over TNG-VOY without time travel being involved.

Which isn't a concern to me.

As far as your prior post was concerned, yes, Star Trek means different things to different people. I dare say that's been true from the era of TOS. As I said, it's not a question of not caring about ship designs etc, I just don't see them as factors that override the meaning of Star Trek, which for me is the exploration of the human condition.

Several centuries before? Well that would put the 24th century shows back before even the founding of the Federation and Earth's move to warp-capable society. So we really couldn't see ships from "several centuries before".

I liked this episode quite a bit... but I do think it's pretty stupid to have 23rd century Starfleet ships buzzing around in the 32nd century.

Unless we find out later that Saru and Tilly were flying that shuttle. That would actually be pretty fucking hilarious.

Perhaps I've just stumbled over the plot of the season four time travel romp, "That Hope is You, part two." :D

So this is happening on DIS the first time, correct?

I really don't know where you are going with this? We saw "older" ships in most of Star Trek, just not already created assets. The Oberth, Constellation and Excelsior class ships would've all been nearing a century old when used in TNG/DS9.

And then it turns out they also paid 2399 SFHQ a visit just to see Picard getting thrown out by Clancy. That would be insanely funny, actually XD

And 100 or 900 years are the same?

And 100 or 900 years are the same?

What exactly does it matter? For all we know, the shuttle represents other folks from an earlier time period who got displaced and made their way to the same station? Or somebody used the spaceframe of a found derelict and used it as a casing for all new parts? Or any dozen of other numerous explanations.

It was on-screen for three seconds.
