2024 book releases

Just two novels it seems. Star Trek novels haven’t been the same since the novelVerse ended

IDW has their Dogs of War Ds9 comic book miniseries of collected stories coming out in May. I'm looking forward to getting this. .Kertrats mentioned it on his Star Trek News show on Youtube and mentioned the upcoming Star Trek books and a collection of short Star Trek stories from Titan Books that were originally in Star Trek magazine.

Thanks! I don't hear much about "Miasma" these days. Perhaps because it never had a print edition in English.
Hmm. I know I read it, because it's on my Chromebook, but I never weighed in on the Review thread, and honestly can't remember anything about it. But I haven't found a GC opus I haven't liked. (Or, for that matter, a CLB opus, and the only Una McCormack opus I didn't like was because of the subject matter, rather than the writing.)

I think that very soon, I will be "reading Miasma again for the first time."

Still too few novels for 2024.
You said it! If it weren't for the embarrassment of riches in DSC/PIC/LD/SNW/PRO DVD sets, I'd be experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms.

Don't we have at least three books coming up shortly Dave Mack's FIREWALL, Dayton Ward's PLIABLE TRUTHS, and my TOS book.

Right! That short-story collection comes out in a few weeks. I have two TNG stories in that book: a Dixon Hill story and a Dr. Pulaski story.

The year is young. Just because something hasn't been announced doesn't mean it isn't in the works.

My guess at the moment is that we might get one, MAYBE two on the slate close to the year's end. That would get us to four/five books in the course of the year, which would fit with the slowed schedule we've been under over the last few years. Taking my guess a step further, I'd likely assume that it would be a Discovery or SNW novel, considering Discovery's final season would likely encourage some kind of tie in while SNW had its whole second season pass without an associated novel.

Pure speculation, of course, but if true, I'd probably expect any announcement around late March at the absolute earliest, and probably further in to April.

Still, hey, the fact that there are three books on the schedule (plus the short story collection) is pretty good, considering the ups and downs of production issues over the last few years. Sure, we're a long way away from the old heyday of two/three a month, or even my personal preference of at least one per month, but it's something. And as has been stated before, the fact that Star Trek even has that many per year is rare enough in the industry, I'm taking the win.

Most fanfics are excessively focused on romantic relationships. And the few good ones usually get abandoned by the author halfway through.

Early release copies are already sneaking out...

Controversial opinion: As much as I would love more novels from a fan perspective, with the rising costs we have seen lately with groceries, gas, groceries, hydro, groceries, and, well, everything really… from a financial perspective, I’m good with the reduced output.

They've made it clear that with the move to TPBs we are never getting one a month again. Indeed, the most we've ever gotten since the switch to TPBs is eight a year, and even that was cutback even before the pandemic and other stuff that's been going on in recent years.

I still think one a month by 2025 is not unreasonable.

When they were $11-$12 MMPBs, sure, that's one thing. Now that some of them are $34 hardcovers and the rest are $25 TPs, I prefer the new schedule.

(Ugh, the TPs went up again recently. They were only $23 not too long ago.)
