He bought Pixar from George Lucas and made the company what it is today.
Technical innovator and businessman. Very important in the history of Pixar, among other things.
I would have thought Harry Morgan (The Ox-Bow Incident, M*A*S*H) would be in the In Memoriam montage...did I miss him?
I can't believe "I Will Always Love You" wasn't even nominated that year.
They did linger on the singer too long and we may have missed some the people in the montage.
That was a cover. They're not eligible for Best Original Song.
It was a remake of a Dolly Parton song so it wasn't eligible.
So remakes of songs arent eligible, but remakes of movies are? What's the difference between covering a song putting your own twist on it, than remaking a movie, and putting your own spin on it?
Those...aren't remotely the same thing. The award is for the songwriters, and they didn't write a new song.

Dang, really wish he did. But at least he was nominated; my first choice for this year would have been Michael Fassbender in Shame (or Jane Eyre or X-Men:FC); he's had a terrific year.
I really have to go see The Artist now...!
