2012 Academy Awards show

I'm so glad we had Cirque du Soleil to tell me that the real "experience of going to the movies" includes taking off my shirt and standing on dudes' heads, instead of actually, I don't know, hearing the two nominees for Best Original Song for longer than ten seconds each.

Because, you know, all of these painful skits have been totally worth it.

The Muppets won for Best Original Song? Excellent (although I personally preferred "Life's a Happy Song" to "Man or Muppet", I'm certainly not complaining).

The Original Song category is an embarassment this year; hence them blitzing through it.

It's like the song Celebration at weddings, I used to hate it and then somewhere over time I couldn't imagine a wedding without it and would have to have it played at my own should it happen. It just wouldn't be the Oscars without unfunny skits and overblown song and dance productions.

What's going on with the microphones? Am I the only one that thinks they sound like the reverb is turned up? :)

No MadMan. I thought someone was strumming guitars in the music booth during the speeches. I then thought it was my TV. Nope. I think they have the problem on their end.

The funny thing is that the Original Song field is determined by the number of votes each song gets, meaning only two songs received enough votes to meet the threshold. It wasn't an especially great year for original songs in film, but, God damn.

The Descendants was basically a lock for adapted screenplay, but Midnight in Paris was a bit of a surprise -- my money was on The Artist (though there may have been some backlash due to the lack of spoken dialogue) or A Separation.

Thank You! I thought I had disabled "Surround Sound" on my TV or something

I can't hear any of the useless trivia as the winner goes up to the stage ;)

Midnight in Paris was widely predicted as the winner.

Ah, the short categories. I know nothing about them.

Woody Allen won another Oscar? The Academy does love their sex offenders and perverts *cough*Roman Polanski!*cough*
