Sounds like college life to me.10 months passing in 9 episodes. Either that is a lot of unseen stories or nothing interesting happens to these cadets for long stretches of time.

What's weird is all the heavier actors are just bit parts, Background etc. The show is still using mostly "pretty" people as the leads. Less attractive people still seem to get the short end of the stick in a lot of TV shows. Not to say it doesn't happen because it absolutely does in many shows.
Having gone to college, though admittedly not a paramilitary academy, the bolded bit is definitely true.
Oh absolutely but back in the 90s there'd be so much going on it would be a miracle they were ever able to study.Sounds like college life to me.
We need more bears in shows to set the world right. What's curious here is that the dichotomy you've created is Heavier Actors vs Pretty Leads, and equated heavier to less attractive. Maybe not your intent, but it's how it reads.
My college life was very boring.absolutely but back in the 90s there'd be so much going on it would be a miracle they were ever able to study.
No I was just responding to Ingrids's post about heavier actors. They are not focusing on the heavier actors but rather the "pretty". I put it in quotes. So not literally pretty. Why doesn't the production have a heavier actor lead? What about the senior bridge officer we saw in the first couple episodes???What's curious here is that the dichotomy you've created is Heavier Actors vs Pretty Leads, and equated heavier to less attractive. There will be at least one comic story set in that time, and I hope to see SA novels as well.10 months passing in 9 episodes. Either that is a lot of unseen stories or nothing interesting happens to these cadets for long stretches of time.
Even in the olden days of over 20 episodes you could probably drop all of the events of a season into less time than it takes to work a 40 hour week. A whole lot of "unseen" events10 months passing in 9 episodes. Either that is a lot of unseen stories or nothing interesting happens to these cadets for long stretches of time.
They're on the way, just slowly.I'd like to see one of pre-warp races from the Berman era...like Malcorians.

Ooh, I missed them, if so! I saw a Cheronian and a pair of Orions, which I do hope to see more of!Isn't one of the Cadets a Suliban?

I was thinking this the other day after watching 'First Contact'. Even if they just showed up as background characters, it would be nice to know the Malcorians got there and followed in the footsteps of Mirasta Yale and moved past the paranoia and isolationism of Krola.I'd like to see one of pre-warp races from the Berman era...like Malcorians.
If you don't want something discussed, don't bring it up. None of us needed to know that you want to see less of Gina Yashere.Thinking a little here.
Lura Thok - I am deeply disappointed in Gina Yashere's recent social media posts concerning the BAFTAs (please do not discuss further on here, this is not the place) and I really am more than happy seeing less of her . A complete change of opinion on my part. She was in my top 2 at the start.
Trans - I am happy to have trans characters wherever and whenever. But weirdly I haven't "missed" them in SFA, perhaps because of Discovery, perhaps because there is a lot of development to keep up with, with quite a big main and recurring cast. That being said, we don't know quite yet if anyone hasn't "declared".
What I would like to see in Trek is some species who are non-binary, hermaphroditic, tertiary gendered etc. It's been hinted at and allegorised, but never done fully.
And while there are a lot of wider things I'd like, they have spent 10% of their budget on 2 actors in season 1, as well as those sets. I hoped that with the upfront capital costs dropping away, we could see something a bit wider in a S.3 if there was one. But I suspect we'll get Airwolf Season 4 / Galactica 1980.
You're conflating biological sex with identity here. Why would an entire species be non-binary?What I would like to see in Trek is some species who are non-binary, hermaphroditic, tertiary gendered etc. It's been hinted at and allegorised, but never done fully.
