I'm glad some women are weighing into the discussion, though I won't go into the racial slur vs. mysoginistic language debate. I have not seen the scene itself, but I have had it described to me, and as far as I can tell, the Klingons are the antagonists in this situation. It has been said that the language used is degrading towards women. To that, I say: damn straight. Definitely. But that is sort of the point. Using a piece of text that is insulting or degrading does not mean that the creator believes that this piece of text, this line, is okay. If that was the case, we need to have a talk with the people who produced Der Untergang. The point is that the 'bad guys' say the words. Their viewpoint is in no way condoned or approved of. It's the Klingons, they're abrasive and rude and this language is to be expected from those that do not guard their tongues with the same honour as they guard their lifes. So yes, it is offensive, yes, that is what the Klingons would do: be offensive. And it's up to the creator to decide to what degree. It just makes me want to see the protagonists beat the antagonists more. In the second Jurassic Park, I get extremely pissed at the people who are cruel to the dinosaurs. But that just means I get to cheer even louder when they get what's coming to them. I'm a 23-year-old woman who is completely aboard the equality train and my view is: don't glorify this language, but don't censor it either.
