He wasn't doing that by telling her to get on her knees? The more I think about it, more it feels like he was trying to provoke her.

 

With knowledge of how Thor and Elliot Randolph reacts to threats and incarceration, I figured his commands was just to buy time, nothing serious.

 

Finally. F I N A L L Y. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has an episode where I have zero complaints. This is how the show should have started. It had great character interactions, a great story, some shady goings ons, non-forced Avenger name drops, relevant info dumb pertaining to the Marvel Universe, and for the first time excellent music. And apparently that armored room on the airbus is made of vibranium; hence, why Sif couldn't escape from there. Keep it up!

 

Solid episode last night. Would have to go with an A- score.

I'm of two minds about sending Ward in to confront her knowing what they knew after Sif's debrief.

A) He's a main lead, he kinda has to be there
B) His back up team was all female it appeared (good)
C) What's his gun, Night-Night or other going to do, bullets bounce off Asgardians anyway. Would tasers have worked? I keep thinking Darcy's only worked in Thor 1 cause Odin had stripped Thor down of his godliness. Loreli appeared to be at fully Asagardian strength.

For about 5 min or so I kept thinking that there might be a reveal at some point near the end where Ward was given some kind of "false skin" or barrier to her touch to be shown during the climax of the episode, on that note.....then there was the sex scene and that idea went right out the window.

Jaime Alexander you are great as Sif, I'm continually pleased at Marvel casting decisions and yet like others I was still going,"what a great Diana Prince you'd be". Hoping that when the Cap Winter soldier DVD comes out in 7 months the Marvel Short we get is a Lady Sif one.

I'm thinking they can go a couple ways with that last scene of May and the update call. We know May is the one with the most knowledge about Phil, even given what the whole team now knows. So, is she there in part to make sure/monitor him post-treatment or is she part of a larger "bad guy" contingency within SHIELD? If the latter I refuse to think of Fury as the cut & dry bad guy but could see Victoria Hand being used as an out for such a story point.

 

Except it couldn't have been, since it depended on what's been established in the past to give weight to its character beats. It's like Whedon and Tancharoen said in that interview linked earlier: most shows get better over time because they need to lay the groundwork first before they can begin giving us the real payoffs. Which is why I try to be patient with new shows and give them time to find their footing.

 

A single shot took down Peterson in Episode 1-1. There would be plenty of reason to believe that the 10 or 12 shots in his clip would have taken down Lorelei, or slowed her long enough for Sif to step in. Even if it didn't work, why not take the shot? Why did he bother pointing it at her? Why did he expect her to turn around and get on her knees?

I'm going to stop beating this horse, but it just was weird.

 

Anyone else notice an odd look in Fitz's eyes when he heard about Lorelei? Almost like he wanted to be taken over too.

She saw him from up on the roof before he saw her, right? So maybe she worked so low-level enchantment on him not to attack. I further assume she'd done an enchantment to hide Ward's motorcycle, because otherwise how can SHIELD not track vehicles tearing through the desert?!

 

Maybe the left over berserker in him made him more susceptible, or he subconsciously he wanted to be drenched in more Asgardian magic, and bugger the consequences.

 

Every time Adrian Pasdar is cast in something it makes my miss Profit even more.

 

Really? It reminds me to be contemptuous of Heroes.

 

I would totally be down for seeing Ward become an evil Asgardian magic addict, a la Blonsky.

 

Bringing in Talbot makes me think. There have been a lot of fan theories (that I originally discounted as nonsense) here and there that the real identity of the Clairvoyant would be the Leader. Now they introduce a Hulk supporting character. And if the guest star that Chloe recently "geeked-out" over was Mark Ruffalo?

My whole objection to the Clairvoyant/Leader theory was that (IMHO) it would be a bad idea to do the Leader without Banner/Hulk. However, if Ruffalo were to be brought in, this would be a very cool way to clear up the loose plot threads from The Incredible Hulk.

 

I'd be interested to see how they could possibly bring Banner into this. I mean isn't he supposed to be hiding out in Stark's New York tower? Maybe having to share digs with Tony has driven him back into a the hobo lifestyle.

So yeah, The Leader is still my favourite candidate for the identity of the clairvoyant. Mostly because I feel like with all they mystery and build up, it'd be a bit of an anti-climax to find out it's just some random comic book villain 90% of the viewership won't have even heard of. An established character would work better IMO. That said, I fully expect the clairvoyant (whomever he or she ends up being) to turn out to be just a minion of an even greater threat, deepening they mystery.

Random observation: Is it my imagination, but did Sif have more to do and say AND get more character development in this one episode of television than the two movies combined?

What if he's married?

So little impact did the last terrible Hulk movie have on me that I had to look up who played Betty Ross on IMDB... Although if they recast Banner, what's the big deal about finding someone else if Liv Tyler is above TV or just busy?

 

Or maybe it was just bad writing because they needed him to end up with her to get the storyline moving how they wanted.

Good writing would have included him at least trying to empty his gun into her face point blank (we know Ward is not shy about shooting people) or making a tactical retreat (run) because he knows he's outmatched in every category.

Anyway.. this is about the level people expected the show to be. Superhero stuff, some awesome fights, a little humor in the mix and also some drama. This should have been the standard episode for Shield right from the beginning (maybe not with an actor/actress from the movies) and you could still ramp it up with some overarching plot lines like Tahiti or enemy organizations.

The show started too slow, took too long to find its legs but i'm happy it finally is at a point where i want to see each new episode as soon as it airs and actually watch it with full attention instead of doing other stuff besides.
