I've had a real tough time getting into George's last couple outings, so I'll wait to buy it until I see some reviews.

 

I agree that Revelation and Dust could have been better (I have not read Rough Beasts of Empire or Plagues of Night/Raise the Dawn) but I loved, loved Serpents Among the Ruins. I'm extremely happy to see DRG3 returning to the Enterprise-B era. If it's even half as good as Serpents was then I'll be very pleased.

 

I've really enjoyed learning more about Harriman through the various books that have focused on him. Serpents Among the Ruins was great so the Lost Era might be George's wheelhouse.

 

Very excited about this one: Serpents was a wonderfully well-written novel - perhaps the most interesting of the original Lost Era novels, stylistically and thematically. Looking forward to more of redcoat-clad drama.

 

Absolutely agreed. This is an insta-buy for me. I love the era and the author w/ this era.

 

Didn't Harriman resign from Starfleet at the end of Serpents or am I misremembering things? It has been a decade since I read it so that's certainly possible. Of course, given this book is set eight years after Serpents, that's plenty of time for Harriman to resign and then decide to return to Starfleet.

It's going to be at least good. So buy it, read it, and enjoy it.

You should read these, You are missing out on two very good books.

 

They're on my list, as are a ton of other Trek lit books I haven't had a chance to get to, but I decided to get caught up on the most recent storyline first (The Fall), instead of constantly being behind. Between that and catching up on Vanguard I haven't been able to make time for any other books yet. But I'll get to them eventually.

 

I asked DRGIII about this description after I saw it earlier, and judging by his reaction I have a feeling this isn't the final one.

 

Well, I haven't had any issues with DRGIII's latest outings, and now he's back for the E-B, Demora AND Harriman.... I'm game!!

 

I am beyond pumped for this novel! Serpents Among the Ruins is a top-5 book for me (if not my favorite TrekLit). My only concern is that Serpents set the bar so high, it's going to be tough for this one to match it. But, imagine how awesome it would be for it to surpass it!

 

This is fantastic! I've been waiting for DRG3 to return to Demora and Harriman. I loved both Serpents, and the short story in the Captain's Table anthology. Instant buy for sure

 

Nah. He actually explicitly states in Serpents he's not retiring from Starfleet, just the captaincy of the Enterprise-B.

 

You mean there's more to do in Starfleet besides captain a starship?

I'm looking forward to getting anew Lost era story taking place in the early 24 century with Demora Sulu as Captain.

 

It's stated in one of the S.C.E. e-books (can't remember which) that Harriman served as liaison to the S.C.E. after he stepped down from command of the Enterprise.

 

^But that was in 2376 right? When he was an old man? There's no saying what he was doing in between that assignment and when he left the E-B in 2311. 65 years is plenty of time to have taken on various assignments. There's no saying that he was even promoted right after he left the Enterprise. I'm not sure Starfleet would just bump him up because he didn't want to captain the Enterprise anymore. I guess we'll see .
