So, will the title be Star Trek Vengeance? As in "The Vengeance of Khan"?
They got Brent Spiner to play the Drs. Soong, when originally they wanted Chinese-born "...actor Keye Luke (who previously appeared as Donald Cory in TOS: "Whom Gods Destroy") in TNG: "Brothers", but the 86-year-old Luke was either unavailable or unwilling for the part. He died only a few months after the broadcast of the episode..." (Memory Alpha) So there is a precedent for casting against ethnicity, if someone would be looking for a rationalization...

Jeri!!!
Wait, I actually forgot all about that. What was Dr. Soong's ethnicity supposed to have been, originally?
Whatever is going on, the conflict won't carry the personal emotional edge TWOK did. It can't. And that's the danger the movie faces. Will it work without it? Khan v. Kirk in TWOK was real. What motivates Khan v. Kirk this time that will be as convincing and gripping? I hope this time it doesn't feel contrived. And, if it doesn't exist at all, then why was Khan specifically needed this time?
But it's going to be Khan vs. Spock because that's who he's fighting in the pictures. Right?My fingers are crossed, but I doubt we'll hear a defiant to the end Cumberbatch quoting Melville with the last fiery breath of his life.

What was Dr. Soong's ethnicity supposed to have been, originally?(love your avatar) -- wiki says about the Soong surname, "…Song is the pinyin transliteration of the Chinese family name 宋. It is transliterated as Sung in Wade-Giles, and Soong is also a common transliteration…"
That's what I assumed about Spiner's Soongs.OF course he could be called Soong because of people changing their name in marriage, and have either very little or zero of the ethnicity it implies.
:: waves to Jeri ::
But casting a non Japanese actor as Sulu is ok because? People think Asians all look the same and nobody would notice?And who cares if he isn't the right ethnic type? The original actor wasn't, either.
Times were a lot different then. There weren't as many ethnic actors that were easily accessible. It was easier to accept then than it is now when there are many actors available who more fit the role. Plus, it wasn't a huge contrast because he at least wasn't pasty.
It would be like if they cast Sulu as a white guy. Yeah, it probably doesn't really matter if they would have, but it seems off to do so.
Actually the original aryans come from Persia, but anyway...Many people from northern India are just as white as northern Europeans. They are in facts aryans. Where the original 'white' people came from is northern India. They of course wouldnt be blond or blue eyed and Cumberbatch is not blond and his eyes if blue could be changed with contacts.
