Zachary Quinto vs Chris Pine

1bulma1

Lieutenant Commander
Who so far do you think has had and will continuing to have the better career?

Who do you think is the better actor?

I'd say....it's not a competition. They can both have very good careers.

But I do hope that Quinto will condescend to re-up for American Horror Story next season, especially if he's cast in a wildly different type of role than he's played so far. How about a suave-ay lady's man? ;)

Pine is more of a conventional handsome leading man than Quinto. He has a new movie coming out opposite Reese Witherspoon, while most of Zachary's post-Trek roles have been on TV. So far, Pine seems to be having the stronger career.

Plus the sad fact of the matter is that being gay still seems to place something of a barrier in an actor's career path. Gay actors frequently get cast as The Token Gay Guy - Quinto has even had such a role, in American Horror Story. Maybe and hopefully that will change but unless it does, my money would be on Pine.

Quinto did magin call...it won him critical praise including an independent spirit award, the film was also nominated for an Oscar which he attended yesterday.

In fact that was why I started this thread, Quinto to me looks like a serious working actor (I can see an Oscar in his future) Pine is more of a movie star.

Hey, what happened to Karl Urban, can't wait for the Judge Dredd movie? I wouldn't mind seeing either three (shirtless, preferably) in anything they do. I love Simon Pegg's humor, as long as he stays away from Shaun of the Dead type movies, I'm onboard. I loved Paul. I wish John Cho would stay away from those Frick & Frack movies, because he is really a good actor.

Yeah, the new H&K was even worse than the 2nd one. And that's saying something. They should've stopped with the first one. Cho needs better agents who can get him outta these.

I'd say Pine, since he's better looking, is the captain, and has already had "Spy vs. Spy" and that train movie whereas I can't think of a major film Quinto's led in yet.

Yea, Pine will probably be the "Big Movie Star" like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, while Zachary Quinto will be the Big Actor, like Meryl Streep.

I've never understood why being in films supposedly makes you better than people who do TV. Why only judge them by how much they earn?

hmmmmmmmmm...I always thought Quinto was the better looking of the two but people dont see that becaue he wears big nerdy glasses and dresses geeky..

I think Quinto is very good looking and Pine is a bit generic looking. Still a handsome man but not interesting.

At the moment Pine is a leading man; Quinto is a character actor. Expect Quinto to do more varied and interesting roles than Pine -- at least in the short term, while Pine is young and handsome and can get leading roles. Judging from work like Bottle Shock, Pine won't have too much trouble transitioning to supporting, character roles when he's older.

Pine is a good actor. He needs to find better roles than he's getting right now. Hence, perhaps, his "problem" with his agents?

I loved Quinto in Margin Call. There's no reason why he shouldn't get juicier parts in film. But TV shouldn't be underestimated. It took Sherlock for Benedict Cumberbatch to really get noticed widely, at least, here in the US. I know he was very well known in Britain.

^ No he wasn't. He'd done a couple of tv things (a supporting role Small Island and he played the young Stephen Hawking) but it would be an exaggeration to say he was 'very well known' before Sherlock.

I don't see why they both can't have good, long careers. It seems to me Quinto is more interested in doing a variety of roles and projects both large and small. Pine certainly has the movie star tag written all over him but that doesn't mean he can't or shouldn't look into more character actor type roles. I think Pine appeals perhaps a bit more because he does have sort of the all-American good looks type of thing. Quinto is hot, though, in a nerdy, sexy way.

I just really hope Quinto being gay affects his career. It shouldn't because for goodness sake's, he's an actor. You are supposed to play different roles, gay/straight, alien/non-alien, jerk/not a jerk, etc. It's about how well you portray those role as an actor. One's personal life shouldn't affect any of that although I read a story that some newspaper or TV interviewer asked George Clooney if the fact he didn't have kids impaired his ability to play a father in "The Descendants". His answer was, "I don't think you need to become a heroin addict to play one so why should it matter?"
