DC to REBOOT???

The (eventual) full JLA roster...

Glad to see J'onn J'onzz in there.

Except he's not.

That's...

Deadman in the upper left. Martian Manhunter isn't even mentioned in the article. Manhunter will be in a different team.

And I hate that little fact. Just because I'm such a sucker for MM, I buy another team book I'm otherwise not that interested in. How come Deadman and Mera are in, but J'onn, one of the founding members in ANY chronology (yet), is out?

It would make much more sense--story wise--to not have Batman, put him in StormWatch. Martian Manhunter IS the League.

And, seriously, Cyborg only made the team because he was on SV.

Possibly, but I doubt that had that much of a deciding factor. The last time he had any major appearance on the show was four and a half years ago.

It is more likely that Johns and Co. are simply fans of his and want to see him go more mainstream. Johns basically said something like this when explaining Cyborg's role in Flashpoint.

As for Cyborg, disagree. He was already a Justice League briefly. And he is supposed to be the main character/Superman of the current Flashpoint storyline, even though DC has a funny way of showing it, not giving him a solo FP miniseries or the reboot solo series, though the miniseries is supposed to be upping his profile. Also he's been a key member of the Teen Titans for decades and been on the Superfriends and Teen Titans cartoon, so I think his profile is bigger than Smallville (though the Smallville appearances were cool).

I wasn't trying to say anything of the sort that he's unpopular. I mean, he's a classic Titan character, and Teen Titan was DC's best-selling title in the 80s, and it hasn't been doing aweful in the last decade, either. But that's actually my point. Cyborg is associated with the TT, not the JL. But the nuDC doesn't seem to care much about character - team associations, otherwise J'onn J'onzz would be in the fuckin' League!

I wasn't real fond of the high collar on Supes, so I'm glad to hear that it's not a permanent feature. In Hal's case it represents a minimal difference from his regular outfit. I like the look of Superman's new costume on that glass image.

I'm not a fan of the high collar or segments on the costume but other than that it's okay I guess. I'm kind of excited for "Justice League". Cyborg, like Mera, Hal Jordan, and Barry Allen does seem like the latest in Geoff Johns reclamation projects. As Broc mentioned he is a major player in "Flashpoint" basically that worlds "Superman". I don't have much problem with Vic being promoted to the big leagues. Although it's possible we won't see him on the roster until we catch up to the present since the first arc is supposed to be a new origin tale. Unless in the relaunch continuity he's never a Titan?

A JLA without Batman? No.

It makes more sense to get rid of J'onn. He has the smallest fanbase amongst the Big 7.

Perhaps. But J'onn has been in the League since the beginning. I think they're were even times when Bats would say to J'onn, "you're the league."

Of course, it could all be retconned away.

OR, J'onn isn't in the League, but he was, he's just not at the moment.

Even Morrison recognized J'onn's importance to the League in his run and made him relevant. In fact prior to Morrison's JLA run I wasn't even a Martian Manhunter fan. My first real encounter with him was in his Bloodwynn disguise back in the Death of Superman arc. How bad is that? LOL.

That being said I think there is a potential interesting dynamic having J'onn apart of Stormwatch. The hero part of an anti-hero group.

[Fanboy] Not MY league!!1 :scream: [/Fanboy]

Mine was here first. :p

I guess MM is enough of a deal that eventually somebody writing about Earth III/Earth-2/Evil Planet had to nod to a version of him as a deceased character - but of course the counterparts that actually appear in those stories are Ultra-Man, Superwoman, Owlman, Power Ring and Whatever-they-call-running-guy.

I cannot think of anyone who would be a worse fit for Stormwatch than Batman. A U.N.-sanctioned kill team is a coward's weapon.

It always cracks me up when people say this. Even though the current DCU continuity may say that the Martian Manhunter has been in the League since the very beginning, in reality has was written out of the book in issue #71 (May 1969) and didn't come back until issue #228 (July 1984). The book was highly successful without him for FIFTEEN YEARS. Since I started reading the book during this period, I can easily see him not being on the team. It's only been since the Detroit League era that they started doing this whole "J'onn is indespensible to the League" business.

Yep, for me J'Onn was the guy who popped up in the reprints.(yes kids they reprinted old stories in new issues back then)

Most of those "you're the league" moments were probably just attempts to drive up interest in the character and hopefully boost his popularity.
