DC to REBOOT???

I'm glad to see the stories in Weird Worlds are continuing in My Greatest Adventure. I haven't picked it up yet (trade-waiting)...
I know the current publishing climate gives us trades for most things fairly quickly but has a TPB been done for an anthology style book? Recently? If so would they collect them into one story apiece or publish them in the trade as they were published monthly, meaning in chapter formats?

I bought Weird Worlds cause I wasn't confident it would end up in TPB form any time soon if at all. I also am not a Lobo fan, the story therein did nothing to change that, and the Tanga story didn't just bowl me over. Garbage Man was the only one I really had an interest in and wasn't disappointed. He and Tanga are going to be in My Greatest Adventure but I noticed that tagline wasn't attached to the end of the Lobo story. New lead character then? If so that will determine if I pick it up. I'm not buying another anthology for just 1/3 enjoyment.

Teen Titans #1 by Scott Lobdell, Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund. It's reportedly a complete reboot with the first appearance of Superboy and what looks like Wally West de-aged back to Kid Flash status. It also features Tim Drake.
Our boy Hound is going to be upset I think that Tim isn't dead and only represented as a trophy case in the Batcave.
Static Shock #1 by John Rozum and Scott McDaniel.
Good to see this. A title from the Milestone imprint had been glaringly absent up till this point as titles have been emerging. Another one would be nice. Wildstorm is getting Voodoo and Grifter solo's.

Hawk and Dove #1 by Sterling Gates and Rob Liefeld(!).
If I had a remote interest in giving this book a chance the name Liefeld would've killed it for me. Doesn't he have a history with the characters though? I seem to recall he worked on their book in the late 80's/early 90's, yes?

io9 has an interview up with Dan Didio and Jim Lee about today's announcements, like Teen Titans and Legion.

Didio: "I think you're looking at every one of the former Robins to have a real showcase book, and (Teen Titans) will be the primary showcase for Tim Drake."

So, where's Stephanie Brown's "showcase book"? :-/

Given Didio's previous quotes about Steph, it's quite possible he still doesn't think of her when he thinks of the former Robins.

Actually, given Didio's track record on Steph I'm tempted to imagine him saying this, then drinking lots of water while eyeing up Steph's fans' cornflakes.

But perhaps I do him an injustice. ;)

Yeah, I know. I just had to get in a snarky retort. :)

I am a little bugged that part of the Bat-family appears to be missing -- Steph, Cass, and Helena. I realize that there's no confirmation that Commissioner Gordon or Alfred exist in the new DCU, either, but they're also characters who haven't headlined a book, which isn't true of Steph, Cass, or Helena, all of whom have headlined books in the past.

No way they're getting rid of Commisssioner Gordon or Alfred. Not just because they're core parts of the mythos, but they're prominent in the movies.

Pretty disappointing and glaring if Steph, Cass, and Helena turn out to be the disposable ones..

I'm pretty sure Alfred is firmly overwrite-protected. And I'd be very surprised to see a Simone-penned Babs book without Commissioner Gordon, though I suppose that depends on how drastically Batgirl's backstory's been retconned.

But I'm also bothered by the lack of confirmation of the continued existence of the rest of the Batfamily. For one thing, if any character was in desperate need of new costume it was Huntress.

Maybe there'll be a Young Justice book with Steph and Cass both running it? Probably not. I'm excellent at tenuous hope, but even I can't believe in that one.

Looking at that Titans cover again, I have to say most of the costumes look very 90's to me. Superboy has the slouchy gloves and a tattoo? Red Robin has a bad case of belt/pouch-itis. Although it's still a BIG improvement over that hideous costume he wore in the Red Robin comic. Wondergirl, She found Psylocke's old hood! Lasso made of magma? And what is up with insectchick? The Ray/shade chick looks pretty good though.

I'd settle for a return to her late-90s black/purple costume.

Or, just cover up the mid-riff on the current costume, as some artists (like Tony Daniel) have been known to do.

You have to wonder how someone who is invulnerable to bullets can GET a tattoo.

And the costumes... especially Wally/Bart... are the sucks. Very 90s, very overworked. Why have one or two details, when you can have 10.

Yeah, he pencilled the 5-part Hawk & Dove miniseries in 1988. It was his first major assignment following a few fill-in issues of various series.

I choose to believe Superboy's tattoo is one of those wash-off ones you get as a kid which he has to keep re-applying, because that's funnier.

This is true. The hotpants aren't so bad if there wasn't also the bare mid-riff.

I find what the reboot's doing with the women of DC interesting. (I'm neither cheering nor ranting yet, just cautiously intrigued.)

Babs, Diana and Cassie look like they'll have fairly severely revamped stories. Steph, Cass, Helena, Donna Troy and Zatanna are still MIA (I'm presuming Peej, Kara, and Carol Danvers will be accounted for when we hear about the Supers and the Marvels). There are at least four women on released covers whom nobody has identified for sure.

At the same time, they seem to be showcasing more women than they were pre-reboot. We're potentially losing lots of characters and development to which fans are very attached. On the other hand, DC has had a crappy track record with female characters. This might be an attempt at a fresh start. Hurts at first, but does away with a certain amount of scar tissue.

Obviously there's loads we don't know yet, since we're only seeing lead characters and haven't heard all the titles yet. It's really interesting though.

There's one listed on Amazon, for December. No idea how they'll put the stories together, though.

Thanks for confirming that, nice to know my memory isn't yet as swiss cheesy as comic continuity can be. :techman:

Good to know. That being the case I'm likely to hold off on a TPB for My Greatest Adventure as well since as of now Garbage Man is the only one I'm interested in. Wish there was a way to know how they are going to collect the stories out of curiosity. IMO, collecting each characters story into a seamless story makes the most sense.

Fascinating. I think I'll add the "Teen Titans" book to my list. Also "Batman Beyond" will be relaunched and have a new origin but not for the first issue and it's supposed to have a twist. Please have Damian in the Old Bruce role like Morrison teased in "Batman #700"! That was awesome. I'm still a little confused about the direction of the Legion...appears there will be two books, and the main LOSH book will be stemming out of events of the current one (it mentions the loss of seven main characters). I'm not sure I like that at all.

I think that's Zatanna on the cover of Justice League Dark in the black outfit.
Beat me to it. A commentary piece I saw even made note of how Z now has the fishnets on her arms, perhaps as a way to maintain her legacy with that look but in keeping with the de-sexification of the female characters.

Thank you both! I'd missed that. (I didn't know who a number of the characters on that cover were.)

I'm a bit sad about her new look, actually. I really liked Z's tailcoat and fishnets. Hopefully she'll at least don the top hat now and again.

Given the amount of cleavage on display in these images I don't think they're really aiming at the "de-sexification" of the female characters even if they insist on as much. They probably just think the miniskirts and stockings are passe and silly looking.
