But, being confident and being narcissistic is a fine line, and how do you tell when you've over-stepped it?

Etymologically speaking, "hit" and "fuck" are probably synonyms; "hit" has just finally caught up with what "fuck" came to mean two thousand years ago.

I wonder if in a few hundred years, "hit" will be considered foul language in any context.

If there's a problem embedded in the phrase, I'd be more concerned about the dehumanizing undertones of the choice of direct object. But this is what you get when you live in a society that doesn't know how to communicate with itself. The phrase "you're pretty" is, in context, precisely coextensive, and an obvious invitation, or at least it ought to be.

At least "hit that" is unambiguous. More language should strive to be so.
