I finished Imzadi. It was enjoyable, but not as awesome as the hype. Some of the Troi/Riker stuff was cringe-worthy, but I liked the peek into Betazoid life. Best line goes to Old Riker: "You picked the wrong focal point!", which has to be up there with McCoy's classic "are you out of your Vulcan mind?!"

My favorite line from that novel was one word from Riker:

"Traction."



I've rarely laughed so hard at anything in my life.

Finally finished slogging through The Red King (meh) and got started on Orion's Hounds.

Also started Yours, Isaac Asimov!

Ah-hah! When you are finished, you and I may be among the few people who have read that book. I love Asimov, he's such a splendid fellow..

Can't speak for Red King, but I liked Orion's Hounds more than the first Titan novel.

I decided to read just a few more pages of Y,IA before bed... and wound up reading half of the book! It's hard to put the thing down.

Finished Cussler's Sacred Stone and found it to be meh. The Oregon Files books thus far seem to have a large cast of characters which can be difficult to keep track of. Will be taking all the books back to the library this evening and picking up two more Cussler books, this time more of the Dirk Pitt ones, and also the first of John Sandford's Prey novels.

But today I'll start on Paths of Disharmony. Yay!!!

Finally finished The Battle of Betazed and I agree with what seems to be the consensus around here - meh. Too much space wasted giving basic character information we already knew, and not enough actual story. And am I the only one who finds it enormously silly that the Betazoids "emoted" the bad guys to death?

Next to read will be Section 31: Abyss.

In the audio world, downloaded Diane Duane's latest installment in the Young Wizards series - A Wizard of Mars. The paperback is taking forever, and I love the narrator for these books anyway. Really enjoying getting caught up with Kit and Nita. :-)

Simultaneously I've now started to read the eBook Scattered Earth: The Birth of the Dread Remora by Aaron Rosenberg at home (don't have a mobile reading device).

Just picked up a used copy of the TOS novel "The Better Man" in GOOD condition, for one dollar at a local used bookstore... gonna start on that.

I finished Paths of Disharmony (and went back and forth between "Wow, this is serious stuff!", "Man, I saw that coming", "Really? Damn" and "Meh"), and started rereading The Needs of the Many. I'm in the middle of The Downing Street Years, The Castle Diaries, Ukraine's Orange Revolution and almost done with The Great Crash. (I'm a bit of an ADD reader).

Just finished Sword of Damocles. That was a real mindscrew. Appreciated the emphasis on Christine Vale, who is one of my favorite Titans. The book was far more "high concept" than I was expecting.

Once midterm essays and personal statements are done, I want to continue reading the script to 'TransAmerica'...and re-read (yes, 're-read') 3001, for film adaptation purposes; and, read '2061.'

It is possible to make a good story out a mediocre book, right? (Note: A rhetorical question).
