Slow going down (bringing my chest all the way to the floor), fast pushing back up, and I make sure I squeeze my chest and triceps at the top. Now, keep in mind, if I'm doing push-ups, I will do 4-5 sets of 20-25, with my hands at various widths (or sometimes I will do them with dumbbells in my hand, so I'm elevated and can go even deeper).

This explains why you have muscles and I have pain. ;)

Try doing them on your knuckles. :p

(I studied karate from the age of 9 to 18... if we accidentally hit someone in the face or below the belt while sparring, the punishment was to do 50 pushups on our knuckles. I think I only had to do it two or three times in all those years, though doing 10 was a regular part of our warmup, in between sets of situps and jogging around the dojo. We also had to do them on the backs of our wrists, and occasionally on our fingertips. Needless to say, I wasn't very good at those.)

I actually have done that before. I'm not a fan.

Yeah, I tried that once. It went a little something like this:

"1... 2... Gah! My wrists! My wrists!"

Our family is making a Hallmark DVD card for some friends and I suggested a picture that my wife held her nose and reluctantly took:

And my hair is just a mess.............

Must be a martial arts fixation. We practice jujutsu, and we usually do them on ours palms, knuckles, fingertips, and sometimes "jump on your arms and clap your hands". You can hear more than a few "thud!" and pained grunts in the gym in those instances.

Never tried on the back on my wrists, sound painful and very uncomfortable.

Edited to add: I tried just now, and it was painful, very uncomfortable, and I couldn't rise myself without feeling searing, agonizing pain in my wrists. Never again. :scream:

The easiest way to do 50 push-ups at once and to get the greatest work-out for all those muscles used during is to go from close push-ups(which is when you make a tri-angle with your hands), then every ten get farther apart, you won't get those acky arms, but you will feel it in the end. It will work your triceps, chest, biceps, back, and shoulders.
If your new to push-ups the triangle will need pratice.
But try 10 at first for one month. then every week add 5, you will be up to 50 in no time.

You don't need to become the governor of California to get girls.
But if you want to get weight off or add some muscle, just a simple 30mins of running or fast pace walking, 10 push-ups(try military style), and 20 sit-ups. It won't be a fast change, but it will get where you want to be.
As you get better just increase your execrise numbers.

All this talk about exercise reminds me I should get back to the gym. I haven't been for about a month and a half.

So am I. That's why I can suddenly hear the gym calling again......there's a treadmill and also a rower with my name on.

The really sad thing is that to get to my gym, all I have to do is go into the hallway and take the elevator down to the second floor. And I'm probably going to take a nap instead.

Emher, can I just say I love your avatar? The Iron Giant is such a great movie! Is that from the part where the squirrel goes up his pants?
Thank you, you're the first to comment on it! I've had like a lot of Camaro and Chevy avatars for a long time but I felt it was time for a change, went trough my avatars I'd done and remembered I had this one. It is a fantastic movie, still my favorite Brad Bird film! And yeah it's the bit with the pants, just as he goes "Call me Deeeaann." I just love how odd he looks with that strained smile
