No Shatner in Next Film... (possible spoilers)

"William Shatner was a mediocre actor, who went on to play Captain of the Enterprise; but that was another lifetime." -Nero

Oh how soon they forget ... :)

Shatner made a huge mark on the franchise, but now his time is over.

To me its not a matter of whether Shatner should be in Star Trek, but whether his incarnation can make both a worthwhile and believable contribution. I doubt that would be any easier to achieve in the next film than the last.

If this were 15 or so years ago, I'd be so jazzed at even a hint of having Shatner come back as Kirk. But honestly, his time has passed. I prefer to leave the original JTK where he is. Even if his death wasn't so amazing, he at least went out fighting, and with a lot of energy. Kirk was a very physical character, always running, fighting, exploding with vitality. No matter how often they harped on his age, Kirk still delivered the goods. Shatner in the role today would just look old. And Shatner in any OTHER role within Star Trek would just be sad.

At this point, I'd prefer that future films stand or fall on their own.

Kirk is dead. Long live Kirk.

Including Shatner in the next movie would be pointless. He's already had two curtain calls, in TUC and GENERATIONS. And Nimoy has already passed the torch onto the new cast.

Time to let the new Kirk and Spock have their moment in the sun.

I agree. We have 79 episodes and seven movies with William Shatner. We don't need any more. This is a different Star Trek and it should stay that way. It doesn't need any cheap stunts.

If I had a time machine, I'd bring back a young Nichelle Nichols, because I think Zoe Saldana's ugly as sin. Other than that, I agree that NuTrek should avoid over-using the old crew.

Another thing is the way William Shatner looks now (I really don't want to sound bad) is not the way I picture an older Kirk looking.

I think he should be kept out to, I'd LOVE to see him in the next one, but I know that it just wouldn't work. Although, a voice over might be quite cool.

At no point in that article does he say he is too old to play Kirk again.

As a matter in an interview with Access Hollywood on 10/5 Shatner said he would "love to be in the Star Trek sequel...if the money was right"

I hope they can fins a way to have Shatner in the new film.

That's not the same link I have. In my link, the article does say he's too old... notice it in the first line of the article.

The link you gave looks like to be an update. I say he should go for it... even if it's only for five minutes!! :)

While I can't argue with the logic of all these "it's better off without Shatner" statements, I can't help but think it would still be cool to have him come back if only for sentimental reasons. The simple fact is his appearance in "Generations" was a disappointing on screen exit for Shatner as that character. I'd only want to see him on screen again just so we can get a more dignified and reverent Shatner-as-Kirk curtain call.
If it makes you feel better, Generations wasn't the last of Shatner-as-Kirk, considering he read Kirk's dialog for the audiobook versions of his Star Trek novels.

Is this a

"Bring Back Kirk!" thread

...

or...

a "NuKewlTrek Sucks!" Thread?

:wtf:

My opinion: It didn't hurt the Bad Robot movie, it won't hurt the next movie. :p

Just saw this article:

Shatner says he's "Too Old"

I find this rather shocking. The guy can play in countless television shows but won't appear in what made him famous? Maybe this might change, who knows, but this is kind of a bummer if it's true.

I just saw his new show on CBS tonight, I forget the name of it by it was pretty decent. It's been a long time since there has been any decent shows on television lately.

Maybe we need a petition to get Shatner back one last time... I was really hoping he'd be in it...

Wee! It's time for that again!

Means all the speculation about the film is just beginning. The fun! The excitement! The warp nacelles!

The bring back Kirk thread!

I sure do not want to miss out on this.

Seriously though, we didn't need him in XI, we don't need him in XII. I don't even want him there. The world has moved on, in the immortal words of Roland Deschain. Let it roll on to greener pastures.

Bool! The end! :D

I think its long past time to retire everyone from the old series. I wish they would have stopped with 6. I thought the lasting image of the cast riding off into the sunset was the perfect ending.

I agree. They should have let the original cast ride off into the sunset, but since they gave Kirk such a poor ending in Generations I would like to see Shatner play Kirk one more time. His ending in Generations left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Also, Leonard Nimoy was a huge plus for the last ST film.

With the new series being based on a alt time frame that was caused by time travel there will always be the opportunity to bring Shatner and Nimoy back...It would be fun to see them one last time.

Little late for that.:guffaw:

Im happy Shatner is staying out.:techman: He needs to move on and considering how bad and forced the last film was he would be doing himself a disservice to be in this one.
