I'm indifferent when it comes to seeing Shatner again on Trek. If they do it, fine, if they don't do it, that's fine by me too. With the new timeline established by the reboot, the door is certainly open for Shatner to come back as an aged Kirk, only it would be the aged Kirk that the new established timeline will create which might actually be more interesting to see than the "prime" universe Kirk if you ask me.
However, if they don't do it I won't be disappointed. Trek needs to move on. In a way, they ALSO need to move on from the original TOS characters too eventually. I look at this new reboot casts as a sort of final curtain call for these characters. Who knows how many Trek films JJ Abrams will make, but I'm guessing it won't be that many. My question is if Trek is capable of creating new characters that can become just as iconic as the ones from its past.
