How can I put this gently: Based on what I've seen, that would be rather like comparing a Ferrari Testarossa to a Yugo.

(I mean, seriously. The Coliseum is a cookie-cutter! The A's don't want to play there anymore - they're hankering for a move to San Jose, AFAIK - and I can see why. Especially since the Raiders made them add that ass ugly "Mount Davis" in the outfield)

As for my area: I live in Royals country. Still want to come to a game?

I can't speak for other countries, but it's a totally different menu in India. All the chains: Pizza Hut, Ruby Tuesdays, whatever it is, they have different menus. I'd imagine it's like that in many countries.

A lot of McD's have regional menus. McDonald's on the East Coast of Canada is rather famous for the McLobster.

I have eaten in several McDonald's overseas and yes - it tastes fundamentally the same as it does in the US, as far as the burgers go. Menu item availability can vary by country though, and the names of certain items change too.

There are a lot of countries, for example, where you can't get a Quarter Pounder - many countries are on the metric system, and so calling something a Quarter Pounder is not as useful a term as it is here. And yes, the Pulp Fiction joke about a Royale with Cheese in France is correct - or was still correct as of my last trip to France.

There are also some different condiments available in different countries - vinegar on fries, for example. Or mayo.

In pretty much every McDonald's I've ever been in, you can get a regular hamburger or regular cheeseburger as well as fries - those are is the most consistently available menu items. In some McDonald's, burgers larger than that are simply not available. Most places have the fish sandwich too...and in some countries (Japan, for example), the fish sandwich is a lot more popular of a choice than it is here.

And of course, in countries like India, they don't eat beef...so all bets are off in countries like that.

I don't go to McDonald's very much overseas - for me, part of the fun is to eat locally. But when I took my extremely picky nephew to Italy last year, the kid lived for 19 days off of plain cheese pizza, plain spaghetti with red sauce, and McDonalds. I couldn't believe it, because as mentioned earlier, the food in Italy is the best in the world, in my opinion. But that's what the kid lived off of. He would barely try anything new. On the plus side, he was cheap to feed, anyway.

And Italy? Well, food-wise, that country is a few steps above anywhere else in the world, as far as I'm concerned. One of the MANY reasons why Italy is my favorite country, of all the countries I've visited!

I mean, what's not to love? Incredible history, incredible art, incredible music, incredible food, breathtaking and varied scenery (BTW, did I ever tell you that on my last trip, I finally did the Amalfi Coast?), and (speaking of great scenery) the most gorgeous men on earth . WOW! Plus (and this is maybe the best thing of all), the Italians know how to LIVE LIFE better than any other nationality, IMO. As we have discussed in the past, scheduled events in Italy might not happen on time, but once they begin you are absolutely assured of having a great time! Unless you are one of those terminally inflexible sorts, anyway.

If you ever came out to San Francisco or I went to New York, I wouldn't mind going to a Baseball game with you. I think being a fan of stadiums that you are, you would love AT&T Park.

Yeah, that place looks really cool. I'm on a mission to see every park in the majors and that one's definitely at the top of the list.

If I'm in either of your areas, I'd love to attend a game with either of you guys. AT&T park is on my must see list too. Though if I make it to SF, I'll also have to go over to Oakland for a game too. Compare/Contrast...

Not sure you really want to see a game in Oakland. You have Mount Davis to contend with.

You might be best coming when the A's get a new stadium, hopefully in Downtown Oakland or San Jose in the next ten years.

I thought you lived in New York, being a Yankee enthusiast and all. And yes, I'm trying to visit all the teams ballparks too, so I wouldn't mind a trip to Kauffman Stadium. Hell, the ballpark I really want to go to more than anything else is PNC Park and that's home of a really really crappy team too.

Kaufman is high up on my list of places to catch a game. Only downside is that I HATE the airport in KC. Oh, and definitely want to catch a game before they close Oakland-Alameda County Stadium. Eventually will make all the parks. Though with a few exceptions, I'd prefer to be there when the Cubs or DBacks are the visiting squad.

While I've exchanged some PMs in my time here, I've never met anyone from the Trek BBS in real life (as far as I know). However, I certainly wouldn't be opposed to doing so. In fact, I think it could be fun -- besides, it's virtually guaranteed that we'll have at least one similar interest.

Actually, I've issued invitations in the Meet-ups forum twice since last year for Toronto's annual genre film fest, but alas, it has yielded no fruit.

There are a few people I wouldn't be opposed to meeting, but I really would prefer not to hang out with anyone here.

That's a shame -- you strike me as someone who'd be fun to hang out with... you know, if we didn't live in different countries.

I think meeting people from here in person would be fantastic. I've never had the pleasure of being friends with someone who's into Star Trek as much me and other people here are. I've met a few people who like it, but our conversations never went past simple things like "all of the TNG movies sucked, except First Contact". It would be great to talk to someone in person in depth about things like specific episodes of TNG, DS9, or the original series.

Someone from my friends list here once told me they wish they could watch some DS9 episodes with me, and I think that would rock, but unfortunately we live too far apart. I've never had anyone to watch Star Trek episodes with. It sucks! I once almost met a member of the site in person, but had to cancel at the last minute. I think it would be nice to get a group together to go to that annual sci-fi convention in Toronto some year.

That's me you're referring to, yes? Yeah, it was a shame you couldn't make it out, it was a good show that night. Anyway, if you ever want to make another attempt at a meet-up, just send me a PM -- I'd certainly be up for it! And maybe we could plan for some larger-scale Toronto-area meet-up... you never know.

I've eaten at McDonald's in six different countries (what can I say? Sampling the local Mickey D's is a strange goal of mine when I go travelling to foreign lands ), and there didn't seem to be a great difference in taste. As others have said, though, there are regional differences on the menus, which might provide enough of a superficial difference for some people (for myself, I'd say the least-familiar tasting McDonald's was the one I tried in Greece).

I tried Taco Bell a few times when I was living in Sydney. Not sure, if it is still there. I'd rate McDonalds better food than Taco Bell. But if I feel like takeaway, I'd rather eat Oportos or even Hungry Jacks (but I'm trying to eat less takeaway food lately)

The only burger that I know is available in Australian McDonalds only would be the McOz, but isn't available anymore.

KFC in Australia is crazy...In my area of the US we don't have the Fillet Burger...but I would liked to try it. I worked at KFC here for a number of years and for the most part the menu is pretty boring.

Yeah, I remember when you mentioned it. I'm still baffled at that. And McDonald is not what I think when people say "extremely picky".

AT&T is a beautiful, perfect baseball stadium.
